To give an idea of the thread on the tools...

I bought one of these air compressors from Screwfix a while ago which comes with a cheap hose and a few tools. The hose has a quick release fitting on the compressor end. I want to get some quick release connectors on all the tools, and pick up a better hose and inflator tool. Is there anyone with a similar setup who could advise what connectors I need? Thanks

Finished polishing the rear hangers on the XJR, got it mostly back together but discovered a leaking clutch slave cylinder. Ordered a rebuild kit. Dropped the oil, took the filter off, discovered that the filter I'd bought was a cartridge type and someone had fitted an adapter so the bike now takes an ordinary screw-on. Put everything away half done. Then found that the filter I've got in stock for the Triumph would have done the job perfectly. Ho hum, there's always tomorrow.

I LOVE Scottish Power. When we first moved in they screwed up things so badly that we ended up with a full year for free.

I'm surprised they didn't do this to me, after I refused to pay one of my bills. The story was that I built up a good amount of credit with a supplier who went bust. My account got switched over to Grittish Bas as a supplier of last resort. They sent me a bill from day 1 to day 30 - I told them to take payment from the balance that should already be in my account when it all switched over. "Oh, we haven't got that sorted yet", they said. "Not really my problem", I said. "Contact the administrator of your previous supplier", they said. "Why should I?", I said, "they don't owe me any money... " Not being in the habit of paying for energy twice or lending cash to large energy companies I referred the case to the Ombudsman and got an apology plus a small payment. Jumped to another supplier shortly after. And then they went bust....

Nothing to stop you sticking a year's MOT on it and putting it through a service first.

I bought one of my bikes privately, and went to his house to view. No way would I have gone to a car park. In any case they'll want to see the paperwork, which has your address in it. The guy let me do a test ride, but I did leave him Mrs. Fiddlesticks as collateral. I paid by bank transfer and picked up the bike next day once it had all gone through. Don't see any downside to this, although I've taken cash for a car payment before now. Why not list through Autotrader/Ebay classifieds? You'll probably get loads of chancers and dealers trying it on price wise. If you like unsolicited calls from ambulance chasers stick an ad on gumtree too.

Having recently wiped out on packed snow I quickly learned that any use of the front brake, handlebars, any attempt to go either up or downhill will result in the bike sliding out from under you. Pretty much the only thing you can do is ride slowly in a straight line while getting increasingly stressed and quietly cursing your choice of transportation.

Hi all, Had a leak from the front LH fork seal on the Tiger (bad enough to cause a few drips). I cleaned the forks with wd40, pulled off both dust covers and ran a home-made Seal Mate around the inside of the seals. Didn't see much if any grit come out, but have greased and re-seated the dust covers. Wasn't expecting it to work, to be honest. But no drips after a long ride. Should I be worried? Maybe there's no oil left in there

Put the chain and sprocket on the XJR. Found a leaky fork seal on the Tiger.

Insanity. But if we want to examine "woke" attitudes, the BBC report is a case study in itself.

Had a minor disaster yesterday torquing up the rear sprocket. "Oh", thinks I. "So that's what all the fuss was about on the forum..." To add insult to injury, the bolt extractor didn't want to play and by the time I'd drilled out the stud the internal threads were well and truly ruined. A new rear sprocket carrier was well over £200 (plus studs, bearings etc.) so got my lad to use his Prime account to get me a Helicoil kit on a 24hr delivery. The kit included the correct size drill and tap to make new oversized threads for the coils, although not the tap handle which I already had. With a bit of 3 in 1 oil and a lot of pushing, twisting, backing off, blowing away the swarf (repeat), finally had some internal threads cut. Screwed two coils into the hole - second one was a bit tricky. Then the stud which was tight, but doable with two nuts turned against each other to create a bolt head. Here's the finished product together with the kit. Will re-balance the wheel when it's all back together. A first for me, last time I drilled out a bolt the threads were undamaged.

With fines like that no wonder they're armed.

Cleaned up the alternator where someone had tried to paint it. Also greased the swingarm and cleaned the crud off the bike prior to refitting, and putting on the new chain.

The limited space under my seat is dedicated to a tool kit, electrical tape, cable ties, puncture repair kit and C02 cartridges. We did take a first aid kit when we went away, but generally don't.

And what arrived in the post this morning... (Thanks WeMoto ) Just off to book myself on the approved Triumph Technician training course so that I can fit it....

Cheers all. Total damage only £25 plus a bit of hammerite. Took it overly steady on the way back home. Once bitten and all that. Irony is Mrs. Fiddlesticks didn't need the car today. I just didn't think to check the weather at the other end. Every day's a school day.

Weather was wet but OK all the way to work, but the second I got off the M6 it was packed snow. Minor road, I felt the bike going underneath me. Fell into the road, lady in a land rover behind skidded across the road to avoid me. Of course there's no grip to get the bike back up again, but a couple of lads stopped to help me up. Cracked indicator and side panel but the engine crash bars took the brunt. Got to work and dropped it in the car park again. Not a great start to the day. Fortunately no injuries to speak of. I might take the train home if conditions don't improve.
