  1. Hhmmm. May be fitting 400Gixxer front end? http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1191.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1190.jpg
  2. Always welcome Martin. Gotta bring some GSX bits with ya though, or a pair of GS750 oil pump gears?
  3. That's where I got em from mate and you wouldn't believe the price! Should get a lot of the cost of a stock engine by selling the parts I don't use.
  4. Thanks Bex, may do just that. Tankbag, I have very little cash for this project and I just missed a motor for £400. If anyone wants to provide an engine, they can share the riding ?
  5. Don't think so mate, but you never know with Suzuki! Thought they were a GSX1100ET, a Gixxer 600 and a Hayabusa. Probs gonna use the Busa one, inverted !!! http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1186.jpg
  6. Will do chaps. I think all the GSX motors and some GSXR motors will go straight in. Just need some engine plates and studs. Picking up an engine on loan next month.
  7. I did have an engine lined up, but didn't have enough cash. Been offered some engine parts on loan from one of the Bonneville guys, PJ, the guy with the foundry in his garage.
  8. Picked up a Passat full of stuff from my mate Tony's unit last night; http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1167.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1166.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1165.jpg Think I will go with the ET/ESD frame instead of the EFE frames. Threw a few parts on it for a laugh; http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1182.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/All%20bike%20pix/GSX1100%20project/IMAG1183.jpg
  9. What he said. You need the right tool to push the plate over the rivets.
  10. Check the size of your chain and buy another link. The end of the pins is hollow or has a dimple in it if it's a rivet link.
  11. There is nothing wrong with a split link and yes I would normally use a rivet link. I used a split link on one of my dragbikes and never had a problem. As long as the spring part is new and flat and fitted properly to a good link, it will do the job.
  12. Well, after watching the fantastic Bonneville programmes and having a 30 minute chat with PJ, of PJ and Dave GSX1100ET LSR bike fame( the guy with the furnace in his garage!), I am looking for a good condition/repairable, aircooled, pre 1990 engine and frame, preferably a GSX1100ET, but not essential. If anybody knows of a very cheap one or someone who will share costs and riding at Pendine, I will do the modding and fabbing .
  13. Buy a split link off eBay or local garage. Rivet links are only needed on high power big bikes. Don't think a 600 Bandit is gonna need a rivet link.
  14. Glad you found it Alex. Split link is OK as long as you put it on properly and have the closed end in the direction of travel of the chain.
  15. If it's a clutch strip, rebuild, it's gonna cost ya. shoulda bought a Haynes and done it yerself!

    HELPPPPP!!!

Carb posted this morning Tim. Float height may be a bit low at first. If it is , just bend tang at float pivot slightly towards the flat position to give you a higher float level.

    Decat pipe

Never had an emissions test on any of my bikes? Aftermarket pipes are not fitted with Cats, but not sure what the law is on removing one and keeping the original system without a Cat. The fuelling will be totally different without the Cat , so will need to rejet or fit a Dynojet Power Commander or similar device. A dyno set up is usually a good idea!

    HELPPPPP!!!

Oh yes Tiggie, forgot to mention that! Cheers Bob, he sounded at his wits end and sometimes another pair of eyes helps. Been a busy day , doing carb, parcelling up a Blade wheel for sale and trying to bolt down and level the lathe!!!

Fairly sure that the pivot pin is also trapped by the float bowl going back on mate. I removed the brass pin, floats and float valve and found nothing wrong with the valve seat, the valve or the floats. I did however find that the tang for adjusting the float level was flat with the float bracket and was not closing the valve against the tiny, internal spring inside the valve. I bent the tang quite a bit and then attempted a rebuild. The brass pin would not stay in place, so I will try to make something to hold it until the float bowl is replaced. Fairly sure that the valve is closing and sealing now as when I hold the pivot pin in place, the floats are above their previous position! http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/IMAG1148.jpg If you look at the float bracket on the right of the picture, the tang is flat with the bracket. I bent it down to ensure that the valve will shut. May need further adjustment for float height though.

    HELPPPPP!!!

Yep, stripped carb this morning, removed all jets and blew them through with carb cleaner. All except the float valve which is held in place by the float bowl pivot, which is held in by what may be two blobs of superglue!!! As you can see from the piccy, some cack handed soul has broken the tops off the pillars. I will attempt to remove it , but I ain't promising that it will go back OK. I blew carb cleaner from the fuel inlet into the float chamber via the float valve and it didn'y seem to make much difference with the float up or down, so I suspect that's where the problem is. Especially as Tim said that he had seen a lot of fuel coming out of the overflow! http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/IMAG1145.jpg Float bowl was a bit grubby, so I gave that a scrub! Before http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/IMAG1137-1.jpg After http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r240/megawattblade/IMAG1139.jpg
  25. I might be selling some of the gear! Either the 135 or 185amp MIG set, metal bender, oxy/propane gear, a folding single bike trailer with a trike adaptor and the engine lift, so NO Bob, the lathe will be staying in the garage , rawlbolted to the floor. Mind you , I still have a 3ft miniature lathe that needs a motor and brackets sorting. That will fit in the Passat!!!
