  1. Looks fooked to me mate. Is it all mild steel?. I can replace the worst bits with stainless and do you a new can. depends on cash and how long you wanna be off road???
  2. Thanks for the very kind offer Gill and yes I will accept. Saves Ian clearing his drive for my car and trailer.
  3. I have never heard of a timing chain jumping the sprockets during or after an oil change. You have tested the compression and said it was good? Easy enough to check though? Think you're barking up the wrong tree , unless something catastrophic happened after you tried to start it??? Can you get pix of timing marks and slack in cam chain(there shouldn't be any!!!) with rocker cover removed?
  4. Good advice Bob. More brakes get fooked up by fitting new pads and lack of cleaning than ignoring em completely!!!
  5. Good point Bob, but a better reason for regular maintenance. After a salt run, I always rinse the calipers off with plenty of water. The first sign of binding and I "exercise " the pistons.
  6. They are not playing up mate. Pistons bind when they are not kept clean! They are easily ignored , but they cause problems without regular maintenance. If you remove pads occasionally, clean pistons, grease with red rubber grease, push back in and refit pads , you should be OK.
  7. What you originally said is right. NEVER push pistons in without cleaning them first!!!
  8. I'd like to see pix of the underside of that top yoke mate!!! How thick is it? Did you fit load spreading washers? Are the holes in the yoke smooth and minimum diameter? Your life could depend on how well it has been modified!!!
  9. I thought Quill were a good make too? Have a chat with them !
  10. If they are alloy rivets, you just drill em out with a normal drill . If they are stainless, it's best to use a boron tipped drill. Make sure you buy the correct oval for your can. Price everything up before buying, it may be cheaper and quicker to buy a second hand replacement. Cheaper carbon cans usually burn out and crack. Better quality ones have an inner skin to reflect the heat? I can do the work for you , but it will cost postage money as well as my time ???
  11. Gayle , you can reskin it with another carbon fibre tube and re-rivet the ends. A cheaper option is to reskin it with a snug fitting stainless tube. Can you get accurate measurements of diameter and length between end caps and I can price up the materials for you? Can you post pix from the side and both ends please?
  12. What Stu said. Two low beam, one high beam or any combination , as long as not blinding people.
  13. I'm off that weekend!!! Gonna try to make it. Is there anywhere I can park my Passat and trailer???
  14. I buy the best plugs I can for a hard revving engine that gets lots of abuse and very little attention. NGK Iridium for me!!!
  15. Welcome Andy. Also check the reg/rec, normally runs hot , but too hot and there's a dark brown smell. Check wires into it and make sure there,s a good bolted connection to metal.

    Re-chrome??

Have it rechromed, my old Mondeo needed new headlights coz the chrome fell off. Costs a lot more than re-chroming.
  17. Google it or ask a supplier/bike shop ???
  18. Where are you Alex. Can you get bike down to my place ?
  19. Buy a Haynes manual or ask at a bike shop. Turn the tickover down with the adjuster screw, when you find it!!!
  20. Best get it on a Dyno and sort out the fuelling mate!!!
  21. Looks like my paddock stand. The pads slide in and out. If I were you I would either cover the pads with foam or tape to stop em scratching the swingarm. If you can fit bobbins to your arm , I would buy hooks with the paddock stand.
  22. Is it carbed or injected. Your mods would want to produce a power increase , which means that the ECU would see it running lean and increase the fuel flow to maintain the correct A/F ratio, about 13/1, so if it is producing more power it will burn more fuel !!! If it is carbed, it will be running lean and will need bigger main jets and needles modding?
  23. Pix would help?
  24. What did they do to em Craig?
  25. Thanks Stu, the high speed Roloc polishing pads make a big difference and in the angle grinder the speed is 3 times that of a drill!
