  1. Well as a lot of them are on this forum you must be mixin*with them as well. I honestly thought that comments from someone who has used E10 for a lot longer than a couple of months might help disperse the scaremongering and false myths. I was wrong. So wrong, change terrifies a lot of these tough bikers.
  2. I’m commenting on the negative feedback I’ve had on a couple of forums after sharing my experience of using E10 since 2009. Mind you I’ve noticed negativity about just about everything that’s a bit different to the norm.
  3. Strangely in my experience most people aren’t interested in what those who have used E10 for years have done. They’re far more interested in the guy down the pub’s friend who needed an engine rebuild after he put a gallon of E10 in his year old bike.
  4. I wasn’t in France when it first appeared but I was in Germany. There it quickly became the norm, helped probably by being cheaper than E5. If there were any genuine concerns they would have been addressed years ago. It’s simple to check if your vehicles are able to run safely on E10 and if you have a pre-2000 car or bike that does have problems don’t use it.
  5. I wonder how the Germans have managed to use it successfully since 2009 then? That’s really strange. Do you think that their scientists and big car makers just haven’t noticed?
  6. Ah you of little faith. Yes, I have used E10 since 2009. It’s only new to the U.K., it’s not a new fuel, it’s a tried and test fuel in other places. Who’s laughing now?
  7. Oh dear, all my vehicles have E10 in their tanks, just like they have for the past decade. Thank you for the warning.
  8. At the moment it’s still on its OE Dunlop Trailmax tyres. It coped surprising well on fresh snow, I did about 25 km during a heavy snowstorm, luckily about 20 of those behind a snowplough, with no trouble. They can’t cope with wet mud though. The camp site exit was up a steep slope about a food deep in wet mud. I needed a bit of help. . For that reason alone I think that in future I will look at a knobblier option for serious off-road sections.
  9. My short term plans will be cleaning the bike, it’s not too clean after its camping trip.
  10. My bike is all packed up and ready to set out on my weekend camping trip. It looks as though it may be snowing while I’m pitching my tent!
  11. But you still get a new plastic that replaces the provisional licence, right? I'm also interested in that because I may need to exchange it for a EU licence. Theres no such thing as an EU licence, individual EU countries issue their own individual licences.
  12. But if it was a Honda it wouldn’t be broken down and parked up off the road.
  13. Isn’t that the same for bike policies? I changed my bike about six weeks ago and changed insurance companies at the same time. I got a pro-rata refund for over 10 months on the old bike’s policy.
  14. Not really the bike but I’ve been checking to see how much space my winter sleeping bag(s) take up in my panniers as part of my preparations for a camping trip in a few weeks time. I will be using the bike on Wednesday as it’s booked in for its first service. The dealer is an hour away so I’m pleased to see that the snow that was forecast for Wednesday afternoon has moved to the weekend. 🌨
  15. This appeared on FB this morning. https://www.adventurebikerider.com/article/techniques-navigating-switchbacks/?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=facebook_page&utm_medium=Adventure+Bike+Rider&fbclid=IwAR1x_FaXTgTAzf3V_YB7tmtJ8F7IgzRJcVR6Et7PF19Jmw2M5Sk1Ch7vrvo
  16. My daughter worked in Switzerland for six months in 2019 so I went to visit her several times while she was there. Once I went via Northern Italy and had two days of heavy rain and zero visibility, the first when crossing the Simplon and the second going over the St Bernard. I need to go back.
  17. Thanks for that. The last time I went over there, in 2019, there was zero visibility so I missed out on the views.

  19. I was simply pointing out that I disagreed with your post that you would lose everything if you lost your phone. That’s simply not true. I can talk about myself but I can also talk about other travellers who use the same hardware that I use. You seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill. Your eggs in one basket comment was incorrect. You obviously live in another world from me, I certainly wouldn’t spend £1200 on a phone.
  20. OK it would be a pain in the neck but not the total disaster that you made it out to be. I haven’t been to Italy for a couple of years but last time I was there it was a first world country with shops, good 4G coverage and lots of free Wifi. Perhaps it’s imploded since Brexit but I’d be surprised if I couldn’t replace and reconfigure my phone there. Not that it would worry me as I tend to have a second mobile phone, a waterproof Samsung and my iPad with me as well as my iPhone when touring. It did make the good beginnings to a horror story though. 6/10 for effort.
