  2. Throttled Junr and I will be putting in a few tags and some camping over the next few days. First run for a while.
  3. I think they look great and would get one but for I have an armoured denim jacket. I think the difference between leather/good textile and hoodies/denim is that the former may not need replacing after an off but the latter will.
  4. x2. I wrapped the teeth with a bit of cloth and electrical tape to stop it from marking the caliper.
  5. This is what a fairing can hide This the first part I have finished. The numberplate hanger is now black and rust free and the screws holding on the number plate light have been replaced with stainless steel allen bolts. Some are under the light cover so you cannot see them.
  6. Poor bike. It fair suffered over the 2013 to2014 and 2014 to 2015 winters. It was washed regularly, serviced but the fight with corrosion means it is under going a new major rejuvenation. Anything that was not replaced with stainless steel the last time has to be replaced this time. Various fixings have just disintegrated. I have a large selection of allen bolts and washers. I find these http://hlmet.com/images/inch_titanium_hex_socket_head_cap_bolt_420cc300.jpg to be the best at surviving and be the easiest to take on and off. The rejuvenation has meant replacing both calipers. Last time I got away with stripping and replacing seals and pistons. This time I have found two Dutch bike part dealers. They are stripping KLEs and ER5s, do English, have paypal and the postage is under a tenner using DHL. So the KLE now has an ER5 front caliper and KLE rear caliper. They were £20 each and have come from bikes that have not corroded. Just arrived is a speedo sensor, it fits round the front spindle. I replace the very corroded cable to find the corrosion had got inside the sensor. I have also got a new stainless exhaust from Blackwidow http://www.blackwidowexhausts.co.uk/kaw ... 1355-p.asp but I want to thoroughly clean and sort the rest of the bike before it goes on. I have tried to unbolt the old one, but it does not want to play. Heat and penetrating oil has cleaned the nuts up, but they are still not budging. I am going to paint the frame as it is a patchwork of touching up and surface rust. It is solid, so that will be a "rat" job where as much as possible is removed and the rest sprayed in situ. One pain was I put on nice looking, metal, gold valve caps which seized onto the valves. So I had to get the inner tubes replaced. Back to plastic valve caps.
  7. x2 and found it to be very waterproof.
  8. Happy birthday Stu
  9. Definitely not a disc alarm. The bike being buffeted about in the wind can set them off. What is the biker doing with the chain to make so much noise it wakes you up? Is the chain covered in fabric or plastic or is it just chain? As for cable locks, look up Abus steel o flex.
  10. Twice in one day for recommending visitors to Scotland get the Spada 912 over jacket. I use them with Weise over trousers. Both thoroughly tested in Scottish and Irish day long rain and both kept me dry.
  11. The Spada 912 over jacket is long and IME of day long rides in the very wet Scotland, completely waterproof. £33 including delivery off eBay.
  12. I was watching various hacks on you tube and looked up some bike specific ones. I think the duct tape sun visor is a good one if you do it neatly.
  13. This is good and I have used some already http://www.motorcycle.com/top10/top-10- ... hacks.html - coat hanger cruise control (not tried, hands too big and it would get in the way) - wire helmet lock (use one all the time, for my tank bag as well) - make your own tie downs (not needed, yet) - disc lock reminder (too fiddly) - magnets to hold directions the tank (stuck down directions till I got a sat nav) - bin bag to keep you dry (plastic bags in the boots is as much as I have had to do) - news papers in boots for drying them out (works with any boot/shoe) - duct tape sun visor (not used but very good idea) - latex glove liners (used a lot in the winter and they work) - crushed can side support (used a lot till I got fixed pucks fitted)
  14. I wish ibuprofen would work for me. I am off work with my annual cluster headaches and the only thing that works is diazepam to try and knock me out. The pain itself has proved to be untreatable. "The term "headache" does not adequately convey the pain severity of the condition; the disease may be the most painful condition known to medical science." _ Wiki.
  15. It doesn't, the crime of theft by shoplifting needs the person to have left the shop, or walked passed tills to the door so clearly no intention of paying. The guy with the bag was brought from the back of the shop and showed no intention of leaving. So the only crime witnessed there was a repeated assault by the shop keeper. The guy saying "sorry" suggests an admission there was an intention to steal, but he could also be trying to placate the shopkeeper to end the assault. The assault itself is interesting as it probably has an ethnic element to it. Slapping as a form of punishment is used by Muslims and in particular Sikhs, who would not necessarily consider such as unreasonable. Their culture would mean dishing out some retribution and if they even bother to call the police, they too are likely to give the thief a few slaps as well. The slap is designed to humiliate and deter, the shopkeeper is not actually beating the other man up. My attitude is that both should get a warning and no further action which would be a waste of the courts time.

  18. I use these to push the pistons back in, plumbers pliers. http://www.generaltools.com/assets/images/159L.jpg I have wrapped the grips with a bit of material and electric tape to stop them marking the caliper.
  19. I think that what happened is that I got lazy squirting a bit of ACF 50 into the valves before I put them back on and then they welded. All four in one go after no issues for over a year. They are being replaced with plastic ones, 12 for 99p off eBay.
  20. Both bikes are used in bad weather, one more so than the other and both happened in the space of a month.
  21. They can weld themselves on to the valve. I am talking about caps like this http://www.superforma.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/g/o/gold_valve_caps__medium__1.jpg I fitted them to both my bikes, I used ACF50 since there is a known issue, but it did not stop them from welding themselves on. So far one was stiff but came off, one had to be cut off, one has come off with the valve so I need a new inner tube and I have one more to try and remove.
  22. Happy birthday old chap
  23. The RST Blade looks fine to me. From what I can see if anything the lack of vents may make them very warm in the summer.
