In that case I think it is safe to say congrats to this years top three and the winner GOG, for the second year in a row! 1st GOG - 1370 2nd whitedevil - 1010 3rd priest - 950 A special mention for Throttled Jnr, the best placed pillion and a general well done to all points scorers in what I am sure has been the most competitive and over all highest scoring challenge yet.
  2. Best was a folding camping table. Worst was a naff "bloke working here" sign to put up in my lock up.
  3. Yes lever feels fine, the cable is OK and the other end at the engine casing moves freely.
  4. The Kawasaki KLE500, same engine as the ER5 and GPZ500. It has happened before and the culprit was the side stand switch thinking the side stand was still down and so on engaging gear it cuts the engine. This time it started to do it as I was riding along and if I changed gear it cut out on engaging the new gear. Now I cannot get it to engage gear at all and I have disconnected the side stand switch. It starts and runs fine having just been serviced by me with no apparent issues. Any suggestions? EDIT - by engaging gear I mean when I have selected a gear with my foot and then release the clutch with my hand it cuts out.
  5. Other advice from me would be 1 - have the correct tools. There are many oil filter removal tools and depending on access, some are better for some bikes than others. You want good quality philips head screwdrivers, allen keys and sockets with various length adaptors. That helps with access and reduces the chances of ruining the head of the screw/bolt/nuts. 2 - do one job at a time. That reduces the chances of mixing up which bits came from what part. 3 - have a secure way of taking used oil to your local recycling centre. 4 - don't work anywhere near a drain or else you could loose a nut down it! 5 - it may be worth getting a selection of nuts, bolts etc off eBay to replace rusted ones. 6 - copper grease bolts as they go back on to make future removal less problematic.
  6. Paid and attending. I am still concerned about the place being haunted and very worried about it is next to a lane called Hurtmore Butts. Will there be dogging?

  10. Cracking idea. I have lots of suggestions! You should remove the Corrieyairack Pass as it is not a road for vehicles. Much of it is a historical monument as one of the surviving paved parts of General Wades Military roads. It also pretty much impassable on a motorbike. I would suggest you add the following high passes; - Loch Tulla Viewpoint, Glen Coe on the A82 - The Rest and be Thankful on the A83 - the Dukes Pass on the A821 out of Aberfoyle - Glen Ogle on the A85 from Lix Toll to Lochearnhead - Carter Bar on the A68 England/Scotland border - Wanlockhead (Scotland's highest village) on the B797 in Dumfriesshire. As for biker stops I would suggest you add - the Green Welly on the A82 at Tyndrum FK20 8RY - the Carbeth Inn G63 9AY on the A809 - the Pit Stop Diner on the A814, Arrochar G83 7AB - Ride On Motorcycles, Hillington Industrial Estate, Glasgow G52 4NQ which is new and has a little cafe. Doing the Challenge I was very impressed by - Ei's Bistro at Millenium Motorcycles, St Helens, WA9 5PE - The Pit Stop Diner, Stockton-on-Tees, TS8 3HJ - The Whistle Stop Tea Room, Whitby train station, YO21 1YN Another high pass on my travels - The Rosedale Chimney Bank, North Yorkshire YO18 8SE
  11. It is that 2 seconds which puts me off. I would want something else to keep it in place, like a chin strap. If my chin strap was to come undone, the helmet would not fly off as it is a neat fit. With that thing, if it fails off it goes in a second.

  13. I was not able to go and was not sure what to do as I was off today. So I went to my lock up and spent the day tinkering with my bikes and taking the summer bike out for a ride, the weather here was nice for a change. I just wanted to be about bikes and do what brax loved so much. RIP.

  15. I had a number of dealers tell me that they would not sell more powerful bikes to novices. I do not know how true that is, especially if a dealer is faced with a wad of cash and a sale. But what that says is that the consensus is from dealers, us and those who train, is to get a 125cc and practice, practice, practice.

  17. I did my CBT, bought a 125cc and rode it for the seven months I spent taking DAS lessons and going through the various tests. I would suggest do your CBT and then decide. If you take to riding a motorcycle like a duck to water, you could try one of the quick schemes.
  18. It has held up very well against the recent very bad weather. The strap has kept it in place and the bike has stayed dry.
  19. My KLE500 is due a service. I have added the cleaner to the items purchased. I plan to start the engine and spray the cleaner in. How much should I use? It is a 500ml can. Is there anything else to know about?
  20. 2016 Challenge Table This is the running score for the 2016 challenge. It will be updated at least once a month. It is the taking part that counts! It is an excuse to ride and explore, so at least do the tags in your own region of the country. Or if there is a place you always fancied visiting and it is a tag, go and do that one. Use it as an excuse to go to part of the country you have not been to before. Or an excuse to visit a relative or friend you have not seen for a while. Happy riding Updates - last updated 30/12/2016 First update is only three days in with 6 scorers getting a total of 140 points. Winter storms do not deter TMBF members starting the Challenge! Only a few days later and some longer rides and multiple points are being scored. Priest does six in one go. Bonniebird then goes and does all the pubs in one go! The month ends with GOG enjoying a huge ride racking up the points and jumping 10 places to the top of the table. The others are also piling on the points, better get out and score some myself. Paul-kent rockets into the lead as February draws to an end, with seventeen riders now on the points table. The last week of March generated the biggest update so far with numerous scorers and many swapped places on the points table. Priest gets going with his annual cruise around the UK and Stu even finally made an appearance! April and Priest starts to open a big lead at the top of the table. Throttled Jnr gets his first points as pillions can enter and compete as well. May and priest stamps his authority on the challenge and racks up a big total. There are now 31 scorers in the challenge, rennie has got on his bike! Hogs has a big ride out and shoots up the table. July and 36 scorers, the highest ever for a challenge. Priest stamps his authority by piling on the points, tPIC moves in a top three spot and the battled for second at least hots up with various changes. New riders appear and get scores, so we are up to 37 scorers. Throttled Jnr again shows the way for pillions taking part and picks up 50 points in one day. End of August and the wet summer has slowed down scoring. I do a run and finally get into the top ten. GOG does his last run and it looks very like priest will be this years winner. Hoggs gets the last points in scoring on the 30th December.   22. Sorry I clearly have no idea what I am talking about as I only have 25 years of traffic law enforcement behind me, now work in the legal profession and teach road traffic law. Silly me for getting it so wrong and not knowning anything about liability Perhaps you should take over doing my job for me? Others here may not know what we are referring to, so I added in the details from the RTA 1988. The more people who know and understand the law the better.

That part of the Highway Code is not law, it is advice, the exception being about the hard shoulder, and even then, that is now wrong to a degree as some Motorways now use the shoulder as a live lane Yes, Sec 38(7) of the RTA 1988 states "A failure on the part of a person to observe a provision of the Highway Code shall not of itself render that person liable to criminal proceedings of any kind but any such failure may in any proceedings (whether civil or criminal, and including proceedings for an offence under the Traffic Acts, the M1Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 or sections 18 to 23 of the M2Transport Act 1985) be relied upon by any party to the proceedings as tending to establish or negative any liability which is in question in those proceedings." The Highway Code is a way to establish fault. So overtake on the left and if there is an accident you are more likely to held liable.
  24. The Highway Code Rule 267 states only overtake on the right. Rule 268 states do not overtake on the left unless it is congested and that lane moves faster than lanes to the right. Rule 269 you MUST NOT use the hard shoulder for overtaking.
