  1. Some pictures of the frame being painted black and the state of the exhaust and the finished job with a new exhaust There are a few bits waiting to go back on and then winter here we come.
  2. I have a neighbour who was already parking his bike outside his house, which meant riding a long a pavement to get to it. He would also work on his bike outside. So when I started to do the same thing there was no issue. All the neighbours know our bikes mean two more car parking spaces in the communal car park. In the morning coast down the pavement and start the bike as I am leaving the car park.
  3. The cable end would not fit through into the water proof case so as to be able to charge the phone.
  4. Tried that but I could hardly see the screen.
  5. Thanks for the explanations. It is like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-to-5V-Mot ... 2a3fdf16bc Any recommendations for one which will output enough to stop the issue?
  6. I added a USB charger so I could use my phone as a sat nav. It is definitely wired in correctly because I got someone else to do it The problem is that when the sat nav is on, the phone battery will eventually go flat after about 3 hours of use from a fully charged phone. If I do not use the sat nav the phone will charge from flat to 100% with no problems. Is that normal with a usb charger, or have I got a duff one?
  7. Elaines Tearoom, Feizor Wilf's Cafe, Staveley Knott End Cafe Coast Rider Diner Biker Bistro Pit Stop Diner Penshaw Monument Stainforth Bridge North of England completed
  8. I think that the best thing about textiles is the versatility. Most come with a zip out lining for cold/hot weather. You want vents, especially in the trousers for when it gets very hot. Avoid shiny linings especially in the trousers as they can stick to your legs. If you think you will use gortex, as in ride long distances in the rain, it is a worthwhile investment. Assume the pockets will not be waterproof and carry stuff in freezer bags.
  9. I got some tough to shift screws off today. I used a hacksaw to cut across the screw head and then used one of these http://img.banggood.com/images/upload/2014/10/149407%20(6).jpg It bites into the rough edges and turns the screw.
  10. The only issue is that it can't be read by ANPRS which can piss them with the blues off a little What with more use of ANPRS for checking insurance and tax, illegalplates that cannot read are being cracked down upon.
  11. I have found that as well. But since my purchases are few and far between and not high value, I am happy with the trade card. If I was in business, it would be very annoying.
  12. I have run into that problem and it has been solved for me by people with dremmels who can cut a slot into the screw head to then use a flat headed screwdriver. Prior to doing that penetrating fluid and heat will help to loosen the screw/bolt. Or watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_6RUa0fH4U
  13. I gave up on soft panniers and went for a big dry bag bungeed onto the bike. Dry bags are cheaper, more waterproof and easier to take on and off.
  14. Compared to Jag and Volvo, the German makers produced diesels that are surprisingly efficient, fats and with low emissions. I suspect this may be an issue for Germany. http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... volkswagen "Auto Bild said the BMW X3 xDrive 20d exceeded limits on nitrogen oxides emissions more than elevenfold in road tests by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). This is even worse than the VW Passat’s performance. Peter Mock of ICCT told the magazine: “All data suggests that this issue is not confined to VW.”
  15. A hairdryer to warm the decals up, a razor blade to cut in under an edge and peal off should hopefully do it.
  16. I would use Halfords red primer http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints ... -red-500ml and one of their many bright red car paints. I have been repaiting the frame on one of my bikes. One tip I found from doing that is to spray in little bursts and don't worry if there is a run. The frame being round means most of the runs have disappeared as the paint worked its way round the metal. I did not srip off the old paint, I just sanded it, cleaned it and then used stuff I cannot remember the name of to degrease and do a final clean (it for paint preparation in a can) and then spent ages with tissue and masking tape masking off the parts I did not want to paint. I used grey primer and then stain black. I have used 1 x 500ml can of primer to do one coat and 1 and a half 500ml cans to do three coats of black, the last coat being a light spray over. I have used one 300ml can of laquer to do two coats.
  17. Nickwax visor is effective and lasts longer than anything else I have tried; Rainex, furniture polish, washing up liquid. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41NhqunR8FL._SY355_.jpg
  18. As predicted, it was lovely all week and now I am off it is pissing down.
  19. Throttled and Throttled Jnr. South of Scotland completed for me.
  20. I have tried both treating the rust first, or painting with high temp paint and it made no difference. I used Halfords Very High Temp paint.
  21. Scores updated. I have one to do for the south of Scotland and plan to finish off the north of England next month. The rain has really ruined this years rides for me. Plus, I have a new passion........
  22. The Vango Banshee 2 man tent is a minimum. It barely has a porch. I bought one because it fits inside the Givi V35 pannier.
  23. I just did a cull of people who I do know, but never socialise with and they are clearly trying to get hundreds of "friends". I ignore request from people I barely know.
  24. But Hitler could not speak English at all
