i did a fair bit of scouting around, as i live and work in the area, and this one seemed ideal, if its big enough... also just a couple of miles down the road from winster, and has a nice big , flat tarmac car park . will keep my eyes peeled for anywhere else, but the location of this one is lovely

done several long trips now in my £20 lidls special oversuit, never lets a drop in.. if your looking for something on a budget these are ideal

just to add, they didnt seem to have a problem with us setting up equipment for whatever entertainment, subject to deciding whether theres enough room

i actually went in the square and compass to discuss the possibility with them when there was talk of relocating this year. they are hugely bike friendly, have held other bike rallies, and very welcoming. the campsite is opposite the pub, and theres no function room, but the interior of the pub is , i think , big enough, and they have a conservatory too. they are more than happy to be totally invaded for a weekend , and can do food if prewarned of a rough idea of numbers. would really suggest a recce by whoever might choose the location. they even opened up to show me round out of hours .. and with the size of the campsite , im sure gazebos or even a small beer tent wouldnt be a problem lol

i agree with remys point about locking the bars.. i never do that , even now.. its the kiss of death to smaller lighter riders... i angle the bike towards any turn , and always give myself room to get rolling before i have to turn sharply

gill would you happen to know if theres a hairdryer in your room

tak im sure someone will have sharing space if you put a shout out mate, and i could always find a sleeping bag, got loadsa spare gear in the shed.( long as you dont mind pink )

for anyone whos not been before , you need the entrance round the back of the pub that leads up to the camping....not the tarmac carpark in front of the pub , ( i made the mistake of going onto the front carpark first last year, and the camber is so steep i couldnt get off the bike or turn it round lol)

i think it is , partly at least, and very unfortunately, 'a girl thing'. on the day of my mod 2, after both i , and the other guy who came with the same instructor, passed, we were riding back when our instructor ( who i have to say was brilliant) decided to stop off and say hi to some other instructors he knew who were doing cbt training in a local carpark... and when i opened my visor , one of them actually ran over and squealed...' oh look , its a girl !'. i found it all rather humourous tbh, but they didnt seem to find the strapping lad who had also just passed to be a novelty.. just me ! and as for the schools that snorted in derision when i wanted to do DAS... i have a deep desire to go back to them ( they have bikeshops attached )... on the r6, take up lots of their time enquiring about very expensive mods... then not so politely point out why i will be spending my money elsewhere ...will do it soon as i have a free weekend when im not riding my big scary unsuitable motorbike

you're not alone ... i actually had a massive problem even finding a school/instructor that would take me for DAS.. i think despite most bikers great attitudes to girls on bikes, it isnt neccessarily the same for instructors. Granted i needed a fully lowered bike, so some may not have been able to accomodate me.. but there were just as many who simply didnt want to ...Luckily im a bloody minded determined little cow and didnt stop till i found the right place for me.. and the place i eventually used couldnt have been better. Do Not let some a**hole with an attitude dent your confidence.. you already know your mistakes were not that big, and that it was him unsettling you. If you must use him on the day of your test... insist on having a space between riding to the test centre and your slot.. so you can walk off for an hour and clear your head...then take great pleasure in telling him what you thought of his crap attitude after you get that pass cert in your hand. good luck with it.. believe in yourself , and dont let the buggers put you off

Not been on many big ride outs then? Someone will always take a wrong turn and its very hard to keep everyone together been on loads, always using a marker system and tail end charlie....never lost anyone yet ok, so i fib..we momentarily lost one guy in scotland when he took after the wrong group of bikes after a fuel stop.. but the whole group stayedd together and had a fag break while 2 markers went back to get him

why would people need maps? isnt the whole point of a rideout for the group(s) to stay together ??

i have the same problem, ex gymnast with footballers legs lol( and yes i haver pics and no i aint posting em lol) sidis work for me , but you will need to adjust them to the widest fit.
