    Brake help

Before you fitted the new pads did you clean the caliper pistons before pushing them back in? If you didn't it could be that the pistons are sticking and not allowing the pads to clear the disk when the brake is released. If this is the case ultimately the pads dragging on the disk can cause the disk to warp....
  2. Personally I'd go the DAS route......the £600 or whatever it is these days could be looked at as an investment..... Even going the 125 route will cost....so the DAS is really only the difference between what going down the 125 route would be (including the cost of restricting a bike at the end of it....which itself could cost you £200).....if you get my drift....
  3. Sorry Roy...got squash booked.....
  4. Put the bike on the centre stand and put some blocks of wood under the sump to stop it rocking forwards. Most bikes are front heavy coz that's where the engine is....but there are one or two bikes around that defy this.... Just be carefull to position the blocks so that they spread the load across a wider part of the sump.....ie. not with the weight of the bike resting on the sump plug.....
  5. Check there's no restriction washers in the inlet stubs. Also check your air filter isn't clogged or you don't have an air leak around the airbox or inlet stubs. Also is enough fuel getting through?....clogged fuel filter?.....
  6. Hey Mel....stick your piccy up in the Put a Face to the Name section so that next time we'll recognise you..... It'll be good if they open the outside bar....it was bl**dy hot inside queuing for a drink..... Nice one Neil......so you're becoming a bit of a domino's groupie.....
  7. Deffo with you on that Cat......it was more the whole weekend experience rather than just some savings on kit. If anything the savings were the icing on the cake..... BonnieBird got some leather/textile trousers for £30 and a new lid, which when we pointed out a tiny mark on it the guy knocked another £20 off....so a new Bell M1 lid for £120 which I think was pretty good.....
  8. Congrats Geoff....... Good luck with the part 2.......
  9. Yeah....was a good turn-out..... Nice to see so many forum members down there. Apologies to those I didn't know and didn't get round to introducing myself. Lets hope we get a bit more of that sunshine.....
  10. Yep......I'm gearing up to come along too..... BonnieBird is in France again...so she won't be able to make it....and she'll be gutted as it's such a nice evening.... See y'all down there.....
  11. We went to the entrance at 12:00....but no one showed up. Ran into LittleCat.....in fact I think BonnieBird ran into LittleCat a couple of times. I got some (hopefully) waterproof trousers from the Hein Gericke marquee. Weather was a bit sh*t....but the Blues and Real Ale bar was good......Saturday night was actually really good. Group of guys from a Chinese Cruiser forum were camped across from us....so we had a bit of a chat with them. One of the Mods actually rode his 125cc cruiser from Wales to the show....and as he was on L-plates it took him 8 hours (avoiding motorways).... So we had a fairly good time (even though I had a nice head cold develop while there).......
  12. Do it up mate.....you'll make more money and less mess that way.....
  13. So.....13.4v with the engine running and 12ish without? If so, I don't think you have a problem with the charging circuit.....which is good news.....
  14. I use Google Maps on my mobile. Problem is that it always wants me to take the most major roads around.....even if it's not the most direct route Upsides: It's free on my mobile. Downsides: Apart from the routing thing.....it needs a tank bag with clear window or something as the phone is not waterproof. Haven't rigged up a charger....so battery life is limited (although my ST has an accessory socket in the left side trailing edge of the fairing...so I may need to investigate that)
  15. If the battery is stuffed it could be dragging the voltage from the Reg/Rec down. I'd be inclined to replace the battery and check the voltage again. It should be approx 13.4v with the engine running.....12v ish without the engine running.
  16. Fraid so mate....but best to get it sorted before it really messes your engine up.....

    Judder

Could also be loose Steering Head bearings.......

This would probably be best in Pitstop....but I suspect a warped disk if it only happens when braking.
  19. If the battery is fried due to insufficient electrolyte it can go low resistance and drag the voltage down from the Reg/Rec, charging circuit. Of course the opposite could be true in that the charging circuit has been pumping too much voltage into the battery and boiled it dry. Personally, the battery is dead so will need replacing anyway....but when the new one is fitted to the bike you need to check the charging voltage to make sure it is in the right area as suggested above. If it's too high then you run the risk of boiling the battery. I think for a 6v system you'd need to see 7 - 7.5v at the battery....any more and it'll boil the battery...any less and it just won't charge it.....
  20. Top of the valve stem looks a bit mushroomed to me.....
  21. Think the valve stem is gone mate......or the cam follower is duff. The cam follower mount is not loose is it? You are right that the adjuster should not be so far down that you have to take the locknut off to adjust it. I'd stop using the bike if I were you coz by the sound of it a dropped valve is the next step which won't be cheap to fix. You need to get the top end off the engine and as Megawatt says put some pix up. By the sound of it though I think the valve stem is shot....
  22. You ain't got a magneto if you have a CDI unit..... Dunno this bike....but normally you'll have an alternator which goes into a Rectifier/Regulator which then charges the battery....or not if any of the components are duff. If the battery was dry, then it's had it....but the downside is that it could have taken the Reg/Rec and Stator with it. But first things is to replace the battery and then check the voltage again to see if the Stator and Reg/Rec are OK. A weak spark will certainly give the symptoms you describe as others have said. So sort your battery and charging circuit and you should be OK.....
  23. Unfortunately we'll be at the BMF show in Peterborough.....

    Exhaust

I don't know about your bike specifically....but normally these aftermarket exhausts are fairly easy to fit. I don't know what the penalty is for having a loud exhaust on your bike.... I think the police will tend to turn a blind eye as long as it's not silly loud.....but it does give them the excuse to pull you over to check other things too..... You could of course get a Road Legal can.....some are nice sounding, but don't rattle windows as you ride past..... Some have removable dB killers....so you can run them loud or quieter as you want.....
  25. Congrats on the CBT........yep, it is the first step on a long journey...... When I started riding there was no CBT.......you bought a bike (up to 250cc) and rode it away from the shop or wherever.......no previous experience necessary.... We've all dropped bikes at some time....it's all part of the learning experience..... Keep it between the green....and shiny side up......
