  1. Save youself some money and just use the kickstart..... You can use the money you save to buy lots of carrots....you'll need to improve your eyesight for the winter nights as the CG headlight is next to useless......

    Is this normal?

Just follow the instructions in the Haynes manual.....and set it up from there and you should be OK....
  3. Did the mechanic fit tapered head bearings? if it had plain ball bearings before and now has tapered bearings it will feel quite different......so it may be more of a case of you adjusting to it rather than adjusting the bike to how it used to feel.....

    Is this normal?

Normally it's best to let the bike warm up before riding off....you don't want the engine spluttering or cutting out when you are leaning into a corner or trying to pull out of a junction.....

    Is this normal?

Air is best..... Set the idle screw to the setting suggested in the manual after cleaning..... My OH's daughter has an old CG125 with over 20000 miles on the clock and it is seriously neglected.....but starts first kick and runs OK when following the starting procedure above....

    Is this normal?

No....sounds like the idle jet is dirty....or not set correctly......

    electrics

Pulling the clutch in also reduces the load on the starter when starting the bike.....it then doesn't have to spin the idler shaft in a cold gearbox......every little helps.....especially in the winter.....

    Is this normal?

Down is Off. Put the choke fully up to start......as soon as it fires drop it down to the mid position....let it warm for a minute and then down to the fully off position.....
  9. Bmf tailender @ peterborough in September gog.....if you can wait until then.

    brake pads

Yeah, the carbone Lorraine pads work well on my bike.
  11. Moving the pegs and maybe playing around with the bar height may help matty. Gotta say that I got a sore @rse on the way back.....but I think it was a combination of lack of riding fitness & tail-pack forcing me too far forward on the seat. I find the bike kecks make a difference too. Some of my waterproof ones are worse on a longer journey than others.
  12. I bought some Hein Gericke trousers at the BMF this year (£40) and they were good on the ride up on Friday....didn't let a drop of water in. My secondhand Belstaff jacket was good too.....only the cuffs on my fleece underneath got a little wet.....but that was down to my Spada waterproof gloves giving up the ghost before we got as far as Melton Mowbray.... The Sidi Black Rain Evo's (like Bonniebirds) were pretty good.....slightly damp on the toes of my socks...but I've not G-waxed them for a year now....so I think that would probably help....
  13. There is also the Keswick camping weekend that those further North may be more inclined to get to. But I'm easy with the location......so long as there's some nice scenery nearby to ride through and the company of the nice crowd of TMBF'ers are there I'll do my utmost to get there..... It's a shame because the Miners Standard is pretty much ideal for a venue....they just need to re-staff it with people that appreciate that there's a recession and a large group of well behaved bikers putting a fair bit of money over their bar should be met with a more civil attitude.... Rant over.....
  14. Backfire possibly due to unburned fuel in the exhaust......so it could be to do with the spark. Maybe a problem with the CDI module? Another thought is are your valve clearances OK? May be worth a check to see....
  15. I know we've only just got back from this year's rally......but I understand that there were one or two issues with the venue. So Stu and the Mods were talking about finding a different venue......so I thought that we could all maybe help and suggest alternative venues for consideration? Anyway....I just did a quick search and came up with this place: http://www.lowerlodeinn.co.uk/5.html Obviously there are a lot of things to consider.....but maybe we can help Stu, Vicki and the mods if anyone else knows of possible venues that can be considered....
  16. That sounds good to me Susie......let us know what help you need too....
  17. Just a suggestion....but I think maybe Susie and Rennie are already doing more than enough....although I'd be more than happy to lend a hand with anything that needs doing to help out....

    Throttle Issues

The relay will control the power to whichever circuit.....the ignition switch only controls the relay. If the relay is tracking down to ground (via rusty water or corrosion) it could be effectively bypassing the ignition switch and kill switch. Water and electrics are not good companions.... I'm sure that replacing the relay will solve a number of issues (if not all of them)....
  19. Hey Sue....are you gonna be flogging cuppa's from the van? We may need some hot drinks when we've been out on the bikes.... Maybe make a bit of dosh for the Forum.....

    Throttle Issues

Yeah...the ECU doesn't control the throttle bodies....but it does alter the fuelling according to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) which is attached to the throttle bodies. Once you replace the relay it would be a good idea to reset the adaption....which is easy to do even if you can't hook the bike up to TuneECU. Basically, start the bike but DO NOT touch the throttle....let it idle until the fan kicks in...then still without touching the throttle let it idle for another 15mins....this will reset the running information in the ECU (adaption). When you then take the bike for a run it will then start populating the run information from scratch using information from all the sensors around the bike. This normally gets the bike running good again. The only thing it won't do is synchronize the throttle bodies....and you'd need vacuum guages to do that. Good Luck mate.....

    Throttle Issues

It may only be a tiny little relay....but it has a job to do, and if it's not doing that job then that could explain the problems you have experienced. I'm guessing that a replacement relay can be had for a few quid (2nd hand) or more quids (new) and it's pretty easy to replace....so it's gotta be worth a shot.... You could sell the bike and buy something else.....but who knows if that will be any better.....maybe better off with the Devil you know?....
  22. I use Mucoff chain cleaner every now and then. Read an article saying about not using WD40 on O-ring and X-ring chains as it can wash the grease out and cause the chain to wear out quicker.
  23. Hi Joeman......I was using Google Navigation but this allows more control over route planning.....it's basically a step up from Google Navigation in my opinion. Google Navigation is free as you pointed out and I did procastinate over investing the money in CoPilot....but now I've done it I have no regrets at all.....
