  1. Hey....no probs mate.... If the plug caps need to be longer than that you might want to check that your engine hasn't been put in upside down.... Busters also do HT Wire.....so if you go down that route it may save you a bit on P&P buying from the same place....
  2. Or it could be an airlock in the cooling system. When the engine gets hot does the fan come on? As bogof says if this is not the case it could be the thermal switch that controls the fan. When you fill the system do you use DI water or tap water? Always use DI water especially if you are in a hard water area. Tap water can fur the rad up......so you get no cooling.
  3. May have dropped a valve. In any event it sounds like an engine strip to investigate may be required.
  4. If you go to the drop down box and go down to the SD05FM plug caps they are 108mm long. There's a few others there too of varying length. Wouldn't have thought your plug caps were any longer than that. Good Luck, Bob
  5. Oooohhhh....very quiet down the Marina tonight....... We were a bit late....but arrived 7:45 to find 3 other bikes in the carpark.......
  6. Pattern plug caps......(sorry Stu,delete if you think this is inappropriate)...http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/pr ... er3url=NGK Busters also do HT lead by the metre. Bob
  7. Definitely sounds like the coil pack/HT leads are faulty. My car suffers with the same thing.....stutters and holds back when putting it under load at lower revs in higher gears.....but is OK when you rev the n*ts off it..... Does anyone do OEM versions for your bike? People mention David Silver (I think that's right) when talking about Honda parts......
  8. Tubeless are a bit different........best left to those with the right equipment. Also balancing is important.....again the right equipment is needed. There are online tyre suppliers who have a search engine for local fitters who will put the tyres on for you (at a cost.....usually around £10 a tyre for loose wheels) I took my bike to a local bike shop....got the tyres fitted and balanced and the old tyre disposed of for not a lot more than I'd seen the tyre I wanted advertised on the web. And it also supports a local retailer who'd be sorely missed if he shut down.....

    Cheap Drill?

I have a Wickes cordless which is donkeys years old now....although the battery is starting to go.....and does most of what I want!
  10. Yeah...the plug could be fouled. Maybe try a new one?
  11. How about mobile tyre fitters? May be worth a quick Google to see if there are any in your area.
  12. Don't try to force the plug or you could snap it in the head. Have you put the new battery in? Basically if your battery is flat and you've got no output from the alternator then the bike won't start. I'm suspecting that your alternator or Rectifier/regulator is shot. If you put a fully charged battery in and the bike then starts but the battery runs down and you have problems with the lights and then stalling you need to get the charging circuit investigated.
  13. Nice one mate......maybe put this in the Tried & Tested section? for future reference...

    Cheap Drill?

Have a look in Screwfix....they often have deals on with fairly decent cordless drills.

    bike smoking

Yep....that rain water will be spraying up off the front wheel and hitting the rad, front of engine & downpipes...all of which will be hot. As above....only worry if it starts to do the same thing in the dry....
  16. Good choice. We'll take the day off. Sounds like gunna be great fun. We'll have to hook up for that.....decide nearer the time whether to bike over or take the car......
  17. Nice review solo..... I smile when you say about the cruise control......not really much need of that on our little island over here....
  18. Tango, BonnieBird, Jane, lucky, eastanglianbiker and errmm, who's left? me Ahem......you also forgot your OH and his new bike......very nice it is too. Congrats to him for passing his MOD2....
  19. My Trophy was '97 which is the last time I tinkered with brakes (rebuilt the callipers because of a sticking piston) My "new" one is '03.......and not touched that yet.....and hope not to have to either.....
  20. Ok...thanks for that Stu...that makes a lot of sense. I guess I'm basing it on my knowledge of older bikes that didn't have the sophisticated brakes of the more modern machinery.......
  21. i dont think it will be floating with it been a rear? to be honest i have never seen a floating rear but i could be wrong I thought all callipers floated? I'm sure the ones on my Trophy had movement in them......even the rear. The callipers do the same job whether front or rear and the floating allows the calliper to centralise on the disk so equal pressure is exerted on both sides of the disk by both pads.....otherwise the pressure on one side could distort the disk and cause warping and poor braking. But I could be totally wrong.....
  22. Bonniebird had this on her bike......just a sticking piston on the front calliper causing the pads to drag on the disk and overheating the disk itself. Also make sure that the calliper is floating OK....that'll do the same thing if it's not.
  23. Well I got there about 4:30pm and left about 6pm and didn't think you'd be finished work in time? Yep getting sorted slowly so should be about more in 2012! Shame we missed you......we arrived just about 6 so we could get some food. Look out for an orange Speed Four.....there's not too many of those about....

    Tools list

Thinks it's a Ducati then...... Deffo a socket set.....nothing worse than rounding off nuts on the bike with an open ended spanner. And if you are going to be doing much maintenance also invest in a Torque wrench......cheaper than a new sump pan because you overtightened the sump drain plug......not that I ever did that of course.... Its a Fazer 600 No....your bike THINKS it's a Ducati. Clutch cages that sound like a bag of spanners in a washing machine...
  25. If your lights went out while the engine was running I'd say that you are probably not charging the battery.........alternator, Rectifier/Regulator units may be faulty. Unless you are handy with a voltmeter you may need to take it to a bike shop or auto electricians as you'll need to check the voltage coming out of the alternator. Try charging the battery with a suitable charger and see if the lights come back on and the indicators work......if so that would point to a fault in your bikes charging circuit. Good Luck, Bob
