Sunday the 13th Nov.......ahhh, that's better.... nowhere in particular....just a run.......maybe: Past Tesco Huntingdon....Woodwalton....old A1 up to B660.....Glatton......Catworth.....Kimbolton (back through Kimbolton to pick up B660 again)......down to Thurleigh.....across towards thingy Priory ....Great Barford....across to Sandy.....Everton......Waresley.....Abbotsley......back end of St Neots....and through to Kate's tea van in the Market Square (if she's there...otherwise Nero/Market Square cafe).....Mostly country roads....which are hopefully not too muddy/leafy.... Set out from UFO Motorcycles Huntingdon (15 Clifton Road Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire PE29 7EJ) around 11:30 for those that are partaking on Saturday night.....open to other suggestions and timings if this don't suit.... Not sure you can get a "universal" sissy bar as the mountings will be dependant on the bike it's going to fit. The only option may be to get something made or adapted to suit that bike... Sorry can't help any more......

Scooters have their place in the market....but not for me.....I feel uncomfortable perched on top of the scooter when I rode one, whereas I feel I'm part of my bike when I'm riding that. Each to their own.....

Early indications are sunny intervals and 14 degrees.......Hmmmmmm.......anyone up for a little run as long as the forecast don't change too much? Missed out last Sunday as Bonniebird and I were changing the fork seals on her daughter's CG125.......so I NEED to get another run in before the weather really closes in....

If the starter was engaging and trying to turn the engine it would point to a problem with either the power from the battery (most likely) or a loose or dirty connection from the battery to the starter (not as likely, but still possible). Try jumping it from another source to confirm if it's the battery. If jumping it makes no difference...then you are more likely to be looking at a connection issue....whereas if jumping it works every time, then you've got a duff battery....

When you say you can hear the starter do you mean you can hear it spinning or just clicking? If the starter is spinning but it is not turning the engine over it could be the bendix is sticking or the sprag clutch is worn.....if so it'll be a case of removing the starter and cleaning the bendix if it has one or checking the sprag clutch.... If the starter is just clicking it could be the connection to the starter, earth connection somewhere or possibly a dead winding on the starter itself. Have you tried jumping it from another battery/car when it doesn't start? That'll prove if it's the battery or not. If between attempts to start the bike you haven't charged the battery and sometimes it'll start and other times not that would point to loose connection somewhere, dead winding on starter, sticking bendix, worn sprag clutch, etc rather than a dodgy battery... I used to use Saddle Soap for cleaning my leathers years ago.....and neatsfoot oil for treating it after.....available from horsey type places......

I rode this bike back from Chesterfield when BonnieBird bought it......I'm 6'1" and nearer 15st...but I got 60 out of it on the A1.....but only on the flat or slight downhills.....up hills was a different story entirely......I had BonnieBird behind me in the car making sure other vehicles didn't cut in too close to me.... Megawatt's advice is good (as usual) about changing the front sprocket as these bikes are a little over-geared in 5th.....

Sounds a little slow...but I think the max you'd see from it would be 60mph. Has it been serviced? ie, new plug, air filter, oil, etc? That may make a difference if it hasn't been done recently...

This is always a tricky one......if anyone says " you'll be OK for several thousand more miles" and it blows up in a 100 you'd probably be a bit miffed at the advice. So I'll put myself in your position (but I'll accept no liability for this).....I'd continue running it so long as there is no serious tapping coming from the top of the engine....but I'd be saving hard to get it booked in and done as soon as the money was available. The most likely thing is that some of the clearances are getting a bit large....which would not normally be too detrimental to the running of the bike......it's if the gap closes and you end up with a negative clearance that you can get valves burning and the like...but this would be unusual on an engine with Bucket and Shim adjustment. Personally I'd do the clearances myself....after all this is just a check and adjust if necessary procedure.....it may be that none of the clearances are out of tolerance. Good Luck

I generally spray some ACF50 onto a rag and wipe it over the exhaust and downpipes and any other metalwork I can see. Don't forget under the seat too. It's also good on electrical connections to stop moisture corroding those too. If the engine is not going to be started regularly it's a good idea to remove the plugs and drop a little bit of engine oil down the plug holes and turn the engine by hand to spread it up the top of the bores to stop any rust forming in there. You could also push the brake calliper pistons back in....just to stop any corrosion on them causing the brakes to bind when you come to use the bike......new disks are pretty expensive if the old ones warp due to brakes binding. I think Colin's idea is the best though....will save all this faffing around....

Easy fix....could save you a fair few quid....

Yeah.....seems like us amateurs here know about Copper Grease on the back of the pads.....and of anti squeal shims too......and these so called professionals missed it... Frankly I wouldn't trust them near my bike....

They definitely make life easier....especially if you don't have a centre stand....

Most likely water expansion tank.......but gotta agree with Megawatt....buy a manual, you could do a lot of damage by putting the wrong stuff in the wrong place...

I think it's more likely to be the pick-up coils.......had them fail on my old XS1100 and the symptoms were pretty much the same. Anyway....good luck mate....
