  1. You could try dropping a bit of oil down the cable as that might tide you over until you've got the readies to replace the cable.....
  2. Yeah....I'd replace plugs, oil, filter and fuel before trying to run it. Probably just put a little squirt of oil down the barrels while the plugs are out and turn the engine over slowly by hand. Buying any bike is a risk, so it's hard to give any meaningful advice here. Was the bike kept in a garage or outside during its layoff? There could be other stuff that needs attention too after that period of time: Brake callipers, fork seals, chain, etc.........but a regularly used bike could need attention to those things too...
  3. Sounds good.....we'll make arrangements nearer the time when we know who else is interested too....
  4. Start the New Year with a groan.....some of these have been posted before....but I couldn't be @rsed to edit it...... * My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30 this morning. Can you believe that? Luckily for him, I was still up playing my bagpipes. * The Grim Reaper came for me last night and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death. * Paddy says, `Mick, I'm thinking of getting a Labrador .' `Really,' says Mick. `Have you seen how many of their owners go blind?' * I saw a poor old lady fall over today on the ice! At least, I presume she was poor. She only had £1.20 in her purse. * My girlfriend thinks I'm a stalker. Well, she's not exactly my girlfriend yet. * The wife has been missing for a week now. The Police said to prepare for the worst, so I've been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back. * A mate of mine admitted to being addicted to brake fluid. When I quizzed him on it he reckoned he could stop any time. * I went to the cemetery yesterday to put some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there, I noticed four grave diggers walking about with a coffin. Three hours later they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, `These guys have lost the plot!' * My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were £70. `Blow this,' I thought. `I can get one cheaper off the web.' * Statistically, six out of seven dwarves are not happy. * I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over. * I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move. * I was driving this morning when I saw an RAC van parked on the side of the road. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself, `That guy's heading for a breakdown.' * I just met a fat, alcoholic transvestite. He wants to eat, drink and be Mary.
  5. We'll probably take you up on that offer a bit nearer the time......
  6. I've gotta say Silverspring, I only ride in the rain these days if I get caught out in it..... So the chances are that my gloves will never see heavy rain unless the Met Office really mess up.... These gloves are warm though in the dry.....pretty impressed with them for that so far....
  7. I bought a 2nd hand Belstaff jacket (£30) and Frank Thomas Aqua trousers (£20) off ebay....both have removable inner linings, so keep me nice and toasty. Gloves I have are Spada Enforcer....I've not used them in the wet yet and there is some debate on here about just how good they are in the wet....but they are quite warm. Walking socks inside my Sidi Black Rain Evo boots seem to work pretty good too. We were out for about 3 hours today and the cold didn't give me any problems at all. So if funds are tight look for some decent brand secondhand stuff on eBay or the like....you can find some pretty good gear on there for reasonable money....
  8. Well volunteered TC......take one step forwards....
  9. I've only used mine in the dry so far.....and they are excellent for keeping hands warm. Took a bit of getting used to the extra thickness compared to my other summer weight gloves. A bit concerned about the comments on Waterproofing.....they are sold as 100% waterproof.. A review on MCN seckons that water can wick down from the cuff through the lining....effectively bypassing the waterproof membrane.... Anyway....next time I'm out in the rain I'll check out how they do....
  10. Some pretty inventive methods of securing numbers........nice peg techno.... When we were in St Neots Market Square having a coffee and getting a pic a guy turned up on a new Triumph Tiger 800.....very nice. The guy has a Victory something....but bought the Tiger a his winter toy.... Save the salt getting at the chrome a polished alloy on his Victory. Nice bloke though....and is loving his Tiger......lives in Northamptonshire somewhere and just popped out to get some ciggies.... How about the National Motorcycle Museum for next years list TC?....
  11. Some nice little f*ckers egged both our cars and the front of the house last night........ Happy New Year to them.....hope they step under a bus.....
  12. The main thing is basically a run from the Ace Cafe to Southend Seafront (estuary front really.. ) on the Easter Monday. Turnout depends a lot on the weather. A few years back it was scorching and the place was wall-to-wall bikes, then I think the following year there were snow flurries coming down....so not so good turn-out. We tend not to do the Ace start as there are thousands of bikes and riding in groups of that sort of number is not my cup of tea......seen massive traffic jams coming into Southend with so many bikes.... We tend to sneak in the back way as BonnieBird's brother lives in Rayleigh and knows the back roads around there..... Normally the start of the biking season for many.....
  13. Early warning of the Southend Shakedown....for those that will be interested..... We're gonna try to get along this year as we've missed it the last couple of years. Probably go straight there rather than from the Ace. So put it in your diaries, and we'll make the meeting arrangements a bit nearer the time for those interested......
  14. How about extra points for riders appearing in their photo's with TMBF T-Shirts, Hoodies, Beanies, neckwarmers or with TMBF stickers on their bikes....
  15. Yeah....I gotta add my thanks to TC and Stu for the enormous amount of work that has gone into this..... Too busy shaking last nights beer off and fitting new bits to bike that I got for Christmas today....but we'll see what it's like tomorrow..... I think the message is still not getting through though.......it's for fun.....it's about getting out on your bike and visiting places you may not have thought of. You could go down the town centre and photo your bike against a dozen pubs....but why not see if there are some more picturesque pubs out of town that you can visit and photo the bike in front of. I think me and Bonniebird will photo our bikes outside our local (White Hart)....which is a nice looking pub (and do a decent pint of London Pride too)....but the other pubs I think we'll try to track down in the countryside and make a ride of it to find them....... Anyway....great job TC and Stu and anyone else that was involved....
  16. I thought this was for fun Stu....... Another thing: are pictures from speed cameras allowed......
  17. One question: If we visit a pub on the bike.....do we need to be able to ride it after.......
  18. Hi Kyle.....there is a lot of information in the CBT,Mod1/Mod2 section of the forum which you may find useful. My understanding is that if you pass the CBT at 16 it is for 2 years before you have to take it again. But I think that you need to be 17 in order to take the Mod1/Mod2 test. So it really depends on what you want to do. If you pass your CBT at 16 you can then ride a restricted bike up to 50cc until you are 17. You can then ride a 125cc bike (but be careful as not all 125's are suitable for taking the Mod1/Mod2 on) without having to retake your CBT until it expires at the 2 year anniversary of the last time you passed it. I'm sorry but I'm no expert on this as I passed my bike test 35 years ago....and things have changed in that time.... Good Luck......Bob
  19. Even if that advice is to see what fits you the best.......
  20. Have a look in the tried and tested section....and also at the Sharp safety rating site: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ But you've really got to try lids on before buying.....the fit is the most important thing when buying a new lid....
  21. Nice one mate......fancy a cafe racer project myself.....
  22. IF you ride slowly the temp guage will rise. In 30mph zones my fan will cut in after a short while, but then the temp will slowly go down. So just watch for that......but if the fan doesn't cut in or the temp still rises when the fan is running there may still be a problem. After draining and refilling the cooling system it is possible to get airlocks....my bike needs the top hose squeezed with the radiator cap off to "burp" it....but once that is cleared the cooling works OK.
  23. although I'm not sure about the lots of it.... I used to put a little on the bolt, let it soak in and then add more. Leave it soaking for a few days to make sure it soaks the whole way in. If you use a stud extractor you need to use the largest one you can for the bolt size that is stuck, make the hole for it central in the old bolt and drill down straight......use a pillar drill if you can lay you hands on one. And don't go mad with the stud extractor.....as above, if you snap that off in there you are truly stuffed....
  24. Hmmm...not sure if anything like that exists. Trouble is that you would need to chop the wiring about to fit an Ammeter. There are a few companies around that do replacement clock assemblies......so they may be worth a look.
  25. Bad luck mate........but all is not lost, the practice is still good experience and you can just adapt it to a 500cc to get you through. Hope you get a new test sorted and get through OK....fingers crossed for ya....
