  1. keep the bike. if you get rid, you will struggle to find the cash to get another!
  2. my spidey senses were tingling leading up to the crash...
  3. check the chain as well. that can sound like bearings going funny.
  4. I'm the last bastion of fashion sense. every body takes my lead.
  5. This is pretty - shame it's not on the money for me otherwise i'd be real interested.
  6. you can do always on with AWS, but for a server with enough grunt to run space engineers, you're looking at around £30 - £40 a month +. if you know how much grunt you're going to need, you can pre-allocate (helps them to plan) so it becomes a little cheaper. i suppose if you're looking at buying server hardware £360 a year is a relative drop in the ocean. the additional benefit of AWS is the backups - you can backup to an s3 bucket and take hourly (or whatever period you like) snapshots which is replicated automatically to 3 places in the world. you only pay for storage for this service and you get a tonne free (meant for devs). You won't get this if you build your own hardware.
  7. I'd suggest taking a look at AWS or other cloud based solutions. I span up a space engineers server in an hour. you don't have to worry about software licensing. you choose the OS you want. connectivity can be via open connection to the web, or you can grant ips. it's very simple to set up. The downside is that it's not cheap for an "always on" solution. but it would be cheaper than buying your own hardware. I have a spare 3.2 ghz dual xeon 32gb rack server sat in my garage doing nowt!
  8. didn't think a cat B could be repaired and put back on the road. I thought it was only to be parted out now. Also they should have agreed with you a payout prior to sending you a cheque. service and MOT will not add value to a bike, and it probably won't diminish it much (it didn't in my case). they asked me "did you service your bike" my reply was "every 2000 miles" which was true! They asked the condition of my bike to which i stated i cherished it and it had no expense spared on its upkeep. also you probably won't get paid out on mods - unless you listed them in your manifest. if you didn't, i wouldn't mention them at all as it's likely they could use it to void the claim entirely. So basically - it's fair market rate for a bike of similar miles. the mods don't add much to it. if you bought a lemon for £1000 and sunk £2000 into getting it roadworthy, and market rate for the bike is £2000 - you will get £2000.
  9. I used almost this exact setup for communing. the blade stuff keeps you warm and dry and has a removable liner for the summer months. very good. the boots were SHEEEEIIITTTEE!! i'd get something else. they were good at first, but quickly started letting water through. i wore a hole through the thin rubber sole on the left boot on the gear change through shifting really quickly (about 3 months) which let more water in, especially if i went through a big puddle. you've been warned about those boots!
  10. should be a quick in out job with a part from a scrappy. but yes, if the seatbelt is supposed to be fitted and is not or is broken, your mot is failed. you could alter your reg with electrical tape and make it look like a 1960's model...
  11. All the homebases near me are either closed or turned into an argos. I'm fond of Screwfix, but then it's a short distance from my house and is no fuss. they do decent tools at not extrotionate prices - enough for the enthusiast anyway. e.g. we had a blockage of the drains. dynorod wanted £75 to come out and sort it. £15 rod kit from screwfix and 30 mins work cleared the blockage. i had all the neighbours out thanking me!
  12. There are some real ball bags in this world. I hope it's found.
  13. This sounds like exactly the dumbass thing my missus would do. She's had an ipad2 for 3 years now though and the thing is flawless... somehow!
  14. Assuming the pi is attached to the house this won't be a difficult project. you have gpio pins on your pi. There's about 8 digital channels and you can use the gpio package in python to trigger an event when one of those "opens". then you start a timer. at your given time, trigger another event which your program loop is looking for to sound an alarm and send an email at the same time using the stmplib package. you could even create a little web page which would allow you to set and unset your alarm remotely. to interface with a camera, pygame has a decent interface for this (so you could access your webcam, take a pic and attach it to your email.). job jobbed! quite a good first little rp/python project. I did an automated homebrew centre which took an xml layout of what to do at what time and operate solenoid valves, pumps etc to move liquor and wort around. I did the programming and proved it using led's and prototyping. my friend then failed to come good and just wanted to do old fashioned brewing. where's the fun in that?!
  15. I built myself a custom rig a few years ago. it was more an exercise in interest than anything! spent approx £4k on it - and it was redundant not long after! ati radeon x1950xtx video card asus rog motherboard (i forget which) amd x5000 cpu (this was the best at the time!) 8gb ram (again - best!) modular cpu custom water cooling rig - gpu water cooled (including mosfets) - northbridge water cooled - cpu water cooled - 120x120 mm rad and a 120x240mm rad - reservoir silverstone temjin tj09 case modded to take all the extra water cooling. i spent more money on other types of water cooling and other stuff to fiddle with like black uv lights and the like. i spent hours hiding cables as well! a lot of the stuff was brand new and never done before - which is all pretty normal now. I spent weeks on this thing. it was all old tech 6 months later and i vowed i'd never spend so much time/money on a computer ever again!
  16. if you do clean guttering, actually clean it. not like the last chap who came round to mine and cleared out the guttering, but didn't clean up the facias or windows that he smeared in crap! your website doesn't have a business number, nor does it have a registered address. a land line number is also great (you can forward to your mobile). These are things I look for when I'm searching for a trade. Also your we perhaps you can turn some of the skills you pick up gardening to other trades. bricklayers are commanding excellent wages at the moment - you could get yourself to college and subcontract yourself as a bricky.
  17. I saw this on facebook yesterday. I'm thoroughly gutted. I enjoyed chatting with him. sad times. Rest in peace.
  18. I have space engineers although I'm on a Mac - so it's a bit rubbish for playing games. Especially seeing as it's a 2013 model! I had c64 when I was a kid - I guess I was a posh kid (or more likely my dad didn't know what he was buying so he bought the same as my uncle so we could trade games). I also did the whole LAN party thing. Fond memories of playing doom at my friends house in a letter box view because he had a pentium 133 and I only had a 386! We also used to play red alert using a joystick cable that had been badly soldered as a serial cable. We'd play until the sun came up most nights during summer holidays.
  19. You're safe to go out if you're careful. Ice may form on the roads. The key to riding in these conditions is smooth and slow riding. Take it easy and plan well ahead.
  20. one word. powershell. the moral of this story is: read to the end of the thread before getting all gloaty about powershell. I guess the NOTD is me!
  21. It was! It's the SE5 GTE and there are only a few left (as is count them on the fingers of one hand few). Whoever gets it will have a very rare car indeed! seems even the relatively common ones are pretty rare. Even when it went through it's square edged ugly 80's phase, it was still a pretty car!
  22. I was asked to build a website once. I asked for their branding document. They said they didn't have one and that i was free to place their logo as i saw fit. so i placed it in a spaced manner on the banner. When i delivered their website to them, they stated that they couldn't have the logo less than 30 px from any other words, logos or images. When i asked them how they knew this, they stated it was in their corporate branding document. The same one i'd requested 2 weeks earlier. Cue lots of swearing and a re design of the page.
  23. it's a beautiful car! tempted for a crafty bid.
