  2. No, that's not right. Firstly, you won't stall because your revs are up. Second, dropping the bike or piling into the nearest hedge will happen if you look down or look straight ahead at that hedge. This method is actually a lot easier for beginners and provides more than enough control to complete the maneuvre but the speed during the maneuvre is more variable. It takes the burden away from having fine motor control in the left hand. Why do I feel like I'm selling it to you? Just try it or don't. The end. Handbags!
  3. lurching around doesn't sound particularly conducive to the smooth technique you would need to complete a U-Turn. i think you'd end up stalling and dropping the bike or piling into the nearest hedge. I'm going to stick with clutch control thanks.
  4. I just can't get my head around that technique! surely that would be more difficult than learning a proper balance of clutch control and rear brake. also - in doing this also for a protracted period of time, you're going to leave yourself with premature wear on your rear brake components? Willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.
  5. what really gets me is the fools parking their BMWMERCAUDIs or white vans in disabled bays or parent and child bays. The latter i accept is not law not to park in them, but a courtesy extended to those with nippers - they really are a god send. But i guess if you're "just popping in for a packet of fags" well that's just fine! or those people who think it's perfectly acceptable to stop in the middle of the road to pick someone up and load all their shopping into the boot, strapping in jemima and jayjay into their child seats while causing a traffic jam of apocalyptic proportions purely on the basis they're "just picking someone up". human traffic.
  6. this is the bit that was worrying me... it's a combination of feathering the clutch and controlling the speed with the rear brake. as previously said, get yourself in a carpark and practice!
  7. I may be misunderstanding this, but are you saying NOT to feather the clutch, but instead control the speed using your rear brake?
  8. you're too tense when you do your second shoulder check. shoulder check. move off balance shoulder check balance find your turning point and allow the bike to tip in (don't look at the road, look over your shoulder and allow the bike to turn.) change your focal point to complete your turn. don't forget to keep your revs up and feather that clutch. All's good. well, that's how i did it - find your own way of doing it - but a few things to remember. keep your head up!!
  9. I'm enjoying reading this from 2 camps. This is how things looked to me. the 2 riders were racing hard with one another. MM seemed pass and not make it stick - because rossi always had the better line and held more speed through the corner. leading up to the incident, MM passed Rossi VERY closely - seemed to put rossi's nose out of joint. almost like the mist descended at that point - as a couple of corners later, MM was overtaking on the outside of Rossi, Rossi forced him out wide and prevented a lean so MM couldn't corner. He was already mid corner, so slamming on the anchors would have had him off anyway. MM had no choice but to lay the bike down. This appears to be a deliberate action from Rossi as he seemed to be fully aware of MM's position on the track - even having a good look over his shoulder at one point. Whether or not he kicked out is a little inconsequential - this wasn't racing - It was just plain dirty! All said and done - It's great to watch these 2 going at it!
  10. there's flex in a helmet. it's basically a thin shell and a material which will absorb force if you were to come off. something like polystyrene foam. if it was rock solid, your head would rattle around inside and it would do nothing to protect your brain!! this is why they're a bit of a one shot deal. if you drop it, you could compress the material inside and reduce its effectiveness.
  11. You shouldn't strictly use it - however the amount of scooters and l plates i see on there - i'd say go for it. while the tunnels are being repaired, it's a 30 limit anyway. When you initially asked, i was thinking to myself - a58m!! the other note is I would stay away from that road as it's a bit of a pig. narrow lanes and a huge variance in speed (some doing 20, some 50) will see people jostling for position. coupled with stupidly short slip roads and a general ignorance from most drivers sees this as being a road you should only use when you have plenty of confidence and experience.
  12. sounds good Joeman. This definitely appeals to my geek. I too am an IT geek and love little projects like this.
  13. My inlaws give their annual £35 to mcaffee as well. but still manage to get infected routinely with viruses. I've pointed out that there are free versions of antivirus software - but they'd rather pay. They also regularly pay for a bloke to come out and fix their pc - which I've told them i will do for nothing. I really don't mind doing it. They regularly purchase new pcs because their old one has slowed down - despite them only word processing, net browsing and email. mother in law uses her ipad now for all of these things. I've been on mac since 2012 and really havn't looked back. I dual boot on my imac into windows still for playing some games - but I much prefer osx. 3 years and i havn't needed to reinstall either my macbook or my imac, it was a quarterly thing with pc (granted im sure newer iterations of windows are much better than win 7 or before).
  14. i had a 2005 petrol c-max with exactly the same symptoms. I replaced the battery (cheap one from halfrauds using the trade card) and problems vanished after that. Battery is quicker to change than the starter motor - start there! you can check the health of your battery yourself using a multi meter. I'm sure i've posted about doing this before. principal is the same as for a motorcycle.
  15. how long have you had the bike?
  16. I was thinking the same Although I have a petrol SEAT ibiza its a 1.2 turbo thats pretty nippy with high MPG and low tax It cost me extra for that engine and one of the main reasons we got it is because of the low tax bracket too my issue will be is if they start digging deeper and find that more cars are like this even petrol ones and that the tax bracket goes up! you can claim compensation for this and they have set aside a huge chunk of dosh for this already At the moment I'm not worried as it only seems like certain diesels nor will I be worried if it does turn out to be the same with mine as I will just go the compensation route let's just see how all this ends up!
  17. I wonder if I could return my car to the dealer if it turns out it's pumping out far more pollutants than i was led to believe under SOGA. It's a skoda octavia VRS, but has the same power plant as a VW golf - so i would imagine falls under this umberalla.
  18. Best of luck. you always have that terrible lesson the one before you go for your mod 2 where you make all manner of stupid mistakes.
  19. They can't show you 500 pictures of their f*cking baby over the phone! And there's the very real risk that they might have to engage in a two way conversation and listen to things you want to talk about, not just spout their own drivel about how little Tarquin is doing and how they thought he was about to say his first words but instead he vomited everywhere and it looked a bit like a Jackson Pollock and isn't Tarquin talented? This!! I'm so cautious of posting vid's/pics of my tarquin on facebook for this very reason. Sure thing he's my spawn and I love him dearly and worship every gargle that comes from his mouth - but does celia that i went to school with really want to see that? I'm also very cautious about boasting on facebook - because that's all facebook seems to be. But as with all these social media things - who the hell wants to know what I have to say?!
  20. the bike itself will look great in the showroom. you might get one with good electrics, you might not. most things are stamped steel as opposed to cast, so they're a bit weaker when forces you're not supposed to exert on them are exerted. the tyres will be crap (easily remedied) the plastics will be brittle (if there are any) the chrome will pit, even if you give it close attention. parts network is near none existant. so replacement parts will be a challenge. good luck on getting dealers to honour manufacturer warranties. they will pretty much wash their hands of you! of all the chinese bikes i've seen, the lexmoto doesn't look the worst. but bear in mind that for the same money, you could buy a japanese machine which is a few years old, but will not lose its value so quick and will be easy to shift on when you want something a bit bigger. i forgot to mention the pros: they look ok. (could also be a negative!) soll is correct. there is going to be a lot of chinese bike bashing. the honest truth is they're getting better. but they're still not at the level of the map bikes just yet. for a cheap run around - i suppose you can't beat them.
  21. i look forward to how this is going to turn out! are your plans a fixer upper and leave relatively alone, or are you going to customise it somehow?
