  1. Want one... insurance is suprisingly cheap (for me) for such a powerful machine, and with the new model coming out soon (if not already out?) the prices for used bikes should start to fall.. might treat myself after xmas
  2. Not sure that's strictly correct. Anywhere you have metal to metal contact, if you don't have lube it will wear, so you need some lube between the chain and sprocket...
  3. Gear oil will just fling off and make a mess! Should have thoroughly cleaned your chain before removing the old sprockets, then lube with chain lube once the new sprockets were fitted. Use the Castrol chain lube and it wont fling off. Oh, and spray the Inside of the chain (not the outside)
  4. although, you might want to read this first - not motorbikes, but same principle applies. http://www.bikehacks.com/bikehacks/2012 ... chain.html
  5. Ive read lots of posts (on other forums) from people who only every use WD-40 on their chains. Personally im not so sure. I think its probably good at cleaning, but not good for lubrication as it dries out. Not sure if it does the rubber rings any good either I use "muck off" Chain cleaner, and Catrol chain lube (from halfords ) nice and sticky, and once the solvent has evaporated it doesnt get flung off, even at high speed.
  6. Well done mate!! Go get a GSX-R600, easy to ride and easy to fix when you break it, and like any bike, it only goes as fast as you make it go, so dont be scared!
  7. Well I tried them both ways and either way they look like stupid ears Anyway I figured same as you Adam that the grove is where an indicator version would be so I think they are less worse pointy side up ! and with the Fazer they kind of fit the shape somehow and at least they dont waggle about like the old ones ! Look at the mirrors on this guys bike: "> Pointy side down
  8. great find! burn them to CD and flog em on eBay - you'll make a fortune!!
  9. I'd say pointy side down... pointing up they would look like stupid bat ears!
  10. been looking for something to make my grips a bit thicker...
  11. Totally over slept.. Still in bed.. Doh!!
  12. yes, its a bugger... no nice round exit pipe like the K8 got a couple of options. Some people are just smashing the honeycomb out of the cat (gutting the cat) which apparently makes a difference and keeping it all looking standard. I already have a carbon cover which looks cool so thats one option. Other option is to remove the cat completely and replace with cat replacement pipe and new silencer. The SET valve is on the header pipe on the K7, so that can either be lockwired open (its sprung to stay open, but apparently can flap at high revs) or remove it completely. I might take a look this weekend if i get time... I'll have the bike up on paddock stands anyway as i'll be fitting the new +2 rear sprocket
  13. LOL, im a Gixxer geek I've disconnected my SET valve. Its made the bike sound much better at tickover, and i reckon its also made slow speed handling better, so like on small tight roundabouts, the power delivery is much more predictable without the SET valve.
  14. Either a K8, or maybe the started fitting this style of cat on the later K7's? Doesnt realy matter anyway, as you've ripped out the offending parts and now it sounds awesome I see you took the SET valve out too. Interesting to hear the owner's opinion on if that makes it feel any difference. Lots of debate on other forums about the SET valve. Some say its just a noise restriction thing, others say it boosts low/mid range torque. You'll need to pull the wire from the ECU to turn the "FI" light off
  15. Great thread, planning similar with my bike soon However, are you sure its not a K8? My K7 has the headers detach from the cat, and doesnt have the nice round exit pipe from the cat. http://www.hills-bikes.co.uk/images/part_images/large/751742_74040.jpg The K8 has the headers welded to the cat, and the nice round exit pipe...
  16. got to get to Southampton for 10am Saturday morning so the bike will get a good early morning spanking!!
  17. What bikes did they fit them to? Are they "crazy loud"? Do you think i would end up waking up the entire neighbourhood everytime i start the engine??
  18. You're a star!!! Cheers!! I wonder why so many sets dont include a 7mm?? that is the first set ive seen to include a 7mm... added to my shopping list

    Metal in my Oil

sump plug is magnetic for a reason... I wouldnt worry about it mate
  20. having done some reasearch, i would need to cut the bottom of the fairing to make it fit snugly... Its not put me off (i can always buy a used side fairing) but it got me thinking about if i could mount it right underneath where the Cat currently sits. if it tucked right out of the way, the police will struggle (roadside) to inspect it for kite marks
  21. £92 for a carbon slip on ?? Anyone tried these?? Too good to be true?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GP-Carbon-Exh ... 731wt_1398 I doubt its strictly "road legal" but it doesn't look too bad... worth a punt?? Cast your votes!! http://www.dan-moto.com/Ebay/Items/EX-00084/EX00084_2.jpg
  22. Anyone know of a set of "Handle Hex Keys" ( preferably red on a nice rack) that includes a 7mm hex key?? All ive seen so far have 5,6,6.5,8mm - no 7mm!!!

    Exhausts

Cop: so i'd like to take the bike away for it to be tested to ensure its still legal to ride on your restricted licence. Rider: I'll start walking home then shall i.... Can they do that? I thought the only thing they could do, providing the bike is taxed, MOT'd and insured is issue you with a notice to get it checked/rectified at an MOT station if they have reason to believe you're riding the bike unlicenced, then yes, they can take it away. So if they think it might be de-restricted and you're riding on a restricted licence, they're not gonna let you ride it home!!

    Exhausts

yes i know.. I derestriced enough of them myself as a kid! Imagine a conversation like this... Cop: Nice performance exhaust you have fitted there son, but i see you have a resticted licence. Rider: yes officer, but the pipe dosnt make any difference to performance, it just looks and sounds better offficer. Cop: Are you sure the bike is still legal to ride on your licence and you havent de-restricted it? Rider: yes officer, still legal, and not de-restricted Cop: Hmmm well i dont know why you would spend £xxx on a Performance pipe for a de-resticted bike if it doesnt add any performance, so i'd like to take the bike away for it to be tested to ensure its still legal to ride on your restricted licence. Rider: I'll start walking home then shall i....

    Exhausts

yes, restriction is on the intake side, so a change of exhaust wont improve performance. However i was watching an episode of "Emergency Bikers" ( or some other Reality TV show ) where the cops pulled over some scooter riders and took their bikes away to be tested to ensure they were restricted and learner legal. If the cops see the exhaust has been replaced with a 'performance' pipe, its not unimaginable that they might also consider that the bike owner has also removed the restrictions... The cop's perfectly logical thought process might be "Why fit a performance exhaust to a resticted bike??" as thats what 99% of 50cc scooter riders do - de-restict and fit performance exhaust...
