I had an 02 636 and my mate had a 51 plate 599 we both loved them great bikes.

I think the newer bike without the metal bars from the frame to the front fairing looks cleaner but there pretty much identical, oh and the 636 cost more for tax as it in the 600 to 750 bracket but you gain 2bhp.

But there comfy quick and handle well.

Thanks for the info - i have seen one of the 636's not that far from me and might take a look, is there anything in particular to look out for?

Tbh am not the person to ask both ours ran faultless, both had the rear footpeg hanger on the exhaust side corrode not sure why that one?

I did 20000 miles and all it ever had was an oil change, the 8000 mile service has a shim shim clearence (cant for life of me remember the proper term) thing on it but mine was ok when i had it checked.

Edit just googled it I believe its the valve clearances.

congrats on the pass!

Not sure of specific things to look out for, but check over the usual things. I would have linked to a topic on the forum, but the post has been deleted :(

cheers for all the responses. In regards to the theory test because i was concerned about this too - i purchased the dsa theory cd and same for hazard perception and breezed it. Honestly the theory question bit after doing loads of mock test was spot on - i really recommend it and the hazard perception if you haven't done one before.
