zemon Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 We all love lube Was wondering if anyone can tell me if this stuff is suitable?(My chain is a o-ring chain)http://www.carchem.co.uk/release-super- ... cevsr1mj93ThanksDave Quote
Smokin Joe Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 That's not really a lubricant, more a sort of souped up WD40.I wouldn't use it, go for a proper chain lube. They're not expensive. Quote
megawatt Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Some of these WD40 type lubes can attack the O rings. Stick to a proper non fling chain lube. I use MucOff dry PTFE every 200 miles. Had 25,000 miles outta my last chain. Quote
zemon Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Surely if that one is ptfe then its fine?I emailed them and they told me its what most of their customers buy it for.... Quote
Stu Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Its a blend of solvents which solvents evaporate! I wouldn't use it Quote
tommo Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Its a blend of solvents which solvents evaporate! I wouldn't use it+1Use a proper chain lube or as I do 80w/90w gear oil Quote
zemon Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Ill stick to my usual, its only cos that was dirty cheap lol. Also heard people using filtered old engine oil? Quote
acting_strange Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I put red auto transmission fluid in my Scott Oiler....seems ok to me... Quote
Smokin Joe Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Ill stick to my usual, its only cos that was dirty cheap lol. Also heard people using filtered old engine oil?It does the job, but it will fly off and cover the back wheel in oil. Specific chain lubes are made to cling to the chain. They are so cheap it really isn't worth sodding about with anything else. Quote
zemon Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Cheap?? Lol cheapest I can find is £8.And I'm a commuter so going through it fairly quick lol. Where as the one on my Op was £3 something lol Quote
BikerMooFromMars Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Cheap?? Lol cheapest I can find is £8.And I'm a commuter so going through it fairly quick lol. Where as the one on my Op was £3 something lolChrist, how many miles do you do in a week if £8 per 200 miles is expensive?!?! Quote
Joeman Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Lol cheapest I can find is £8.And I'm a commuter so going through it fairly quick lol. I could sell you some really cheap chain lube if you like, but it will be mostly water and fly off as soon as you pull away... Cheap Chain lube is false economy if youre doing any sort of milage. For the milage you're doing, a scottoiler would be more appropriate! Quote
zemon Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 I've briefly heard of them before and thought about looking into it, but never got round to it. Where is best to get one?And are they bike specific? Quote
Stu Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I just use old engine oil and no problems here in 9 years Do it after a ride let it soak in a bit wipe off excess with a rag Quote
zemon Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Sweet, might give that a go, what do you store it in? And do you filter it before use ? Quote
RantMachine Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 If you're after a cheap fix, could give a DIY Scottoiler a go http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/attachments/bodgers-corner/2858d1226672980-diy-scottoiler-bottle.jpg Quote
zemon Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 Haha love it, tell me you don't actually use that? Lol Quote
Stu Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Sweet, might give that a go, what do you store it in? And do you filter it before use ? store it in whatever you like! I have a 25 litre drum full of old engine oil plus a few 4 and 5 litre bottles too no need to filter it Quote
