mattp Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 OK, so as I'm finally going up to a "big bike" in the next month (massively excited), I thought it also about time that I got some proper boots (and dispense with the workboots I've been getting by with).Unfortunately, I have size 12 feet, they are wide, have a high arch and I have some arthritis in my forefeet and ankles). Buying any form of footwear is always a nightmare but I have no idea where to start with bike boots. Can anybody recommend a few brands or models to start looking at? I am looking for something suitable for year round riding (ie not prone to leaking) that's going to fit my feet comfortably enough to ride the distance at the weekend. Likewise anything I should be avoiding (narrow fit etc)ThanksMatt (Forum newbie) Quote
al_stu Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm anywhere between a 10 and a 12 depending on the brand and have wide feet. Never had a problem with finding boots, they're pretty generous with sizes as in winter people wear thick socks. Just go try some, either a big shop or the NEC bike show will have hundreds of pairs in there and usually reduced in price. Quote
RantMachine Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm a size 15 with high arches and wide feet, so I'd venture to say I know this trouble like nobody else on the forum I tried on almost every large pair at Motorcycle Live last year and found that Richa boots were the only ones that hit the spot. Tango Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Welcome to TMBF mate......pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can.... I have size 11 feet...but my Sidi black rain evo's are pretty narrow. But I've heard good things about TCX boots.....so, they may be worth a look.... Quote
Mr Fro Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Unfortunately, I've not been able to find booties that fit my (not quite as massive as Ollie's) feet. I just try and make sure I don't have to walk that far in them otherwise I end up walking like I've shit myself. Quote
TC1474 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Because of my disability I have difficult feet. For the past 12 years or so I have worn Prexport http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcy ... t_cat/1660and Richa http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcy ... nt_cat/587I have a size 11 right foot and a size 13 left. My left os so difficult, but both these brands not only go up to the size I need, but they are aso immensly comfortable, well made and not over priced.Fowlers of Bristol used to be the UK importer for Prexport, not sure if they still are, but of you can find a local stockist of either brand and get the opportunity tp try them on, I think you will be impressed by both comfort, quality and price. klingelton Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I'm size 12 also. quite slender feet though, which has all its own trials.I found going to J&S and trying on every boot until I found one that fit. I then took it to the counter, because we need to preserve our retailers! Quote
mattp Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 OK so I actually nailed it. I tried all the boots I could in about 3 different places. in case anyone has been reading and having same problems, Richa were quite tight on me across forefoot. I tried on some Alpinestars which to my surprise fit quite well (their jackets/pants were on the snug side so I wasn't hopeful, what with not being of a smaller frame). finally I tried on Tcx and felt like I could stand all day in them so took them to the counter. RantMachine Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I was about to say "cool, might try to get myself a pair at Motorcycle Live", but then I looked at the prices...My Richas may have started letting water in, but that doesn't matter - I'm sure the three pairs that I could get for the price of a pair of Alpinestars would last long enough Quote
Guest Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Not a pair over size 14! The sods stop being a tight git.. have made to measure Altbergs.. a snip at circa £1,200 - £1,500!!!you know you want to. Quote
mattp Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 I've heard you can't put a price on comfort? The £160 I spent sounds a lot more comfortable than £1500 though! But hey, maybe I just have sensitive pockets?! [WINKING FACE] Quote
raesewell Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I have a pair of Altbergs on order £200 Quote

If you're planning on riding in the wet and can afford to, I recommend paying more for water-tightness, warm feet and no bad stench! Quote
RantMachine Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Mine did a great job of staying waterproof all through the winter, it wasn't until March that they started to let the rain in. Considering how much I ride, I wasn't massively disappointed. And yeah, mine have now gone the way of getting soaked for several days and stinking afterwards. If I'm riding for more than a day, I wear my cruiser boots - they don't keep the rain out any better, but they dry out in an hour or two Quote
Tiggie Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 try working in a fish shop!! I have had to get separate boots, jacket, gloves & helmet because of the stink Quote
Who else but Quagmire Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I've been in Altberg and watched them at work, it's a proper oldschool place, cool as fook.Mate is a copper and has his boots made by them as he has hobbit feet. Quote
raesewell Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I went to the factory to get measured and some have had the Altbergs for ten years and still comfy and waterproof. So £200 quid over ten years doesn't sound expensive. Quote
Tango Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Well......check these out..... http://getgearedforbikers.blogspot.co.u ... c=H8360GGG Quote
