The Voyager Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Hi, my assuming is this is not a good idea, should any 'globs' of sealer make their their way into the carb then shit really will hit the fan... The gasket kits for my carb are £35 each which come with all the different jets, but I only need the gaskets (or O Rings as they are called in my manual). One idea was maybe trying to cut my own out of gasket paper but I figured they are not overly bad but have probably not been changed in its 25 year life span. So sealer YAY or NAY? Quote
Mr Fro Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Just buy a pack of nitrile o-rings for a tenner on Amazon. You get a load of sizes.I also have a few sizes of o-ring cord for making up unusual lengths. Only a few quid/metre. Quote
The Voyager Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Hi it's not the 'O' rings I need, it's the more shaped gasket shape, like an L shape if you will. Quote
Mr Fro Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Gotcha. The papery/card type numbers? If it's not broken or cracked, I'd reuse it. I don't use sealer on carbs because they're a sod to get back apart again.I recently tried bog standard gasket paper to make up a float bowl gasket and it weeped fuel a bit - probably would have been better if I'd got the proper paper though. The Voyager Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Well it's a plastic/rubber gasket, standard on the bike i think. I will just re use the one I have. Thanks. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 wipe a very light smear of grease round them to lubricate them might help them go back on nicely but only a very light smear Quote

Stu Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 didnt realise a push iron had carbs It might be good idea to update your profile! as for the seal you can usually just buy the seal cheaper elsewhere Quote
Wynne G Oldman Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Never, ever, never, ever use instant gasket seal on anything. Invariably, you will find bits of it clogging up parts of your engine that really do not need clogging. Quote
Lumor_uk Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 How come the Suzuki manual for my gsf600 says to use Three bond silicone for its cylinder head cover gasket?I've used similar stuff before from Halfords and it was a bloody disaster, but I eventually managed to get some sort of gasket going. onesea Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Gasket Paper? Most marine engineers swear by paper charts (you just have to make sure they take the old ones not the ones in use ).FYI old charts also work well for stenciling... Quote

Never had any problems using 'Instant Gasket (silicone)'; Red or Blue Hermatite. I have also cut my own gaskets from both Cork sheets and sheets of 'greasproof' paper / oil paper. Quote

Me neither have used them all in the past, but not on carbs though. Quote
