I've been all made up with myself for clocking up the miles on my new bike. The miles went by really quickly...in fact the miles on the clock didn't add up.

Then I realised, the clocks are in KM-H (with MPH printed so small it may as well be braille). So the millage will be km too.

My old Chinese bike was the same! For your odo, just remember that that the distance in miles is just under 2/3 of the reading in kilometers. And with regards to servicing, make sure to check whether the service schedule in the owner's manual is measured in miles or kilometres!

But on the front of the speedo itself, it's probably not that accurate anyway... 125 speedos tend to exaggerate a bit, and Chinese ones even moreso. If you want an accurate reading, get one of those dirt cheap zip-up mobile phone holders for your handlebars (something like £5 or £10 I think) and download the app "GPS Speed Free", gives you a GPS speedo reading that's one hell of a lot more accurate than the one built into the bike!

On topic, your Keeway is likely a bit of a fibber. Most small bikes are! My RS50 told very big lies, in its most tuned state the clocks went all the way around and hit the stop. It was roughly where I imagine 110mph would be but this was around 75mph.

hah I remember on the intruder 125 tootling along with the OH on the R6 behind me. We pulled over for a rest stop and he said how fast did it say you were going, I cheerily answered 70. He laughed in my face.

To be honest the speedo is a little bit under. Tested this with my phone over a 2 mile straight road to give the gps as much chance as possible to calculate an accurate (or as much as is possible with gps) speed. Looks like it's 4 mph under.

It's the millage I hadn't considered. Couldn't sleep last night and started thinking about the bike (I'm an old man, with bad wrists from years of drumming ) and it dawned on me.

It would need to be well streamlined for that - Far easier is to wait on the tracks in the midle of a level crossing on the main line - 0 to 125mph almost instantly!

I remember him saying his bike was faster than mine and that we would race, well I rode with him to the local meet and I had to slow for him to keep up. It's funny cause my bike wasn't fast either!

I wanted to like that but thought better of it.

My cat does about 230mph to her breakfast bowl when I go downstairs in the morning.
