Via Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Well my car blew up the other week, so went and got one on finance from dealer, at time of looking at it yet was a fault with swirl flaps and engine light on but dealer promised it would be fixed prior to me taking ownership. Waited two weeks to pick it up after garage it was at was struggling to repair it, got it Thursday and was off yesterday so hooked it up to diagnostic system and was showing fault with swirl flaps, so had a look and one side wasn't even connected, in fact the linkage wasn't even on correct way round and could never be connected. So intrigued today I took dash apart as previously engine light was on and this was their fix... Needless to say dealer is now paying for fully refurbished Ingram manifolds. Quote
Guest Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Unbelievable mechanics like this still exist...I know right! Tissue still allows light past, use electric tape it blocks it completly Quote
Stu Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Name and shame!! I wouldn't trust them to charge a battery after that! Quote
Via Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Actually it blocked it really well Just glad they didn't take a more destructive route. As for name and shame, I simply do not know, dealer won't tell me what garage they used insisting they deal with them as they are ones that have paid for repair. Joeman Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I'd be getting a full refund for the car plus compensation, plus dropping a note to trading standards and their head office.what else have the botched?? Quote
Six30 Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 There's every chance the dealer knew what garage has done , I'd be backing the car for sure . Quote
Joeman Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 There's every chance the dealer knew what garage has done , I'd be backing the car for sure .dealer probably did it themselves, and are making up the story about a fictional garage to offset the blame. To the OP - you have some serious leverage over that dealer now - use it to your advantage and screw them over just as they tried to screw you Quote
Tango Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Deffo get trading standards involved......they can't be allowed to get away with this stuff anymore!! Quote
iangaryprice Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I thought this "fix" would cause it to fail MOT.Engine management light is now part of the MOT.I would definitely reject his car and demand a full refund. You just don't want to be dealing with a garage that is prepared to do this. A friend of mine had a car that had the ABS system "fixed" with a timer box that illuminated the ABS light when the ignition was turned on then turned it off after a few seconds so it looks OK. He had an accident that may have been avoided of the ABS had worked. Cost him his no-claims and £1000 to get the ABS fixed. Quote

Normally abs light is just bodged up to the battery warning light. Start engine, light goes out. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Deffo get trading standards involved......they can't be allowed to get away with this stuff anymore!! If you just 'let it lie', it could be that the next 'botched' car kills one of your loved ones or friends. Quote
Via Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Won't be letting it lie, tbh my main concern atm is getting my money back for parts ordered which was promised, few other things in pipeline which I'm not going to discuss in public untill money in my bank account lol Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I would be onto trading standards as they helped me out when I was sold a duff by a dodgy dealer. I would also wanta full refund and any moneys outsatnding. Plus i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole again and would make a few posts about this on facebook and the like once I was sorted. Quote

bmwdave Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Don't forget when you buy on finance the lender also has a legal responsibility for the goods being as described etc., and will put a lot of pressure on the seller for you. Quote
