Hi All, new to this page so forgive the lack of terminology!

I have a 2010 600 Honda hornet, and today installed the straight through pipes to compliment the Mivv can on the back. All is good and it sounds great, but I seem to have developed a noise at low revs what sounds like tappets in my old escort!

Anyone got any words of advice of where I should start troubleshooting? Everything is done up nice n tight, I even managed not to lose any nuts and bolts in the process!

Any advice is welcome, thanks Chris

Hi Chris welcome to the forum

Pop over to newbies and introduce yourself

As for the taping it could be a bit of valve noise coming through the exhaust or with it been a honda it could be a bit of cam chain noise! some are prone to cam chain tensioners going

It could just be a coincidence that its started with the fitment of the exhaust

Is it blowing from a joint or flange?

If the pipes are thinner than standard,it could be just more noise resonating from them?

I'm with Biancooooo! :-)

A leak at the head flange (snigger) can sound a lot like a tap.

I'd go with a slight leak somewhere on the headers too....... 8-)

It may need the fuelling checked too, as any difference in the back pressure in the exhaust could cause the bike to start running a bit lean.....

Thanks for the responses guys. Next question, what's a flange? Lol!

Where the header bolts to the cyl head.

The round copper/asbestos type gasket can easily become displaced when refitting the header. The nuts will tighten up but the gasket will not seal and each pulse of exhaust gas in that cylinder will leak out ,it can make a noise that sounds like tapping.

I normally stick the gaskets into the head with some grease.

If this has happened to yours, the gasket will be damaged and need renewing.change the whole set while there.

Not sure how many gaskets are on your bike,my RGV has 2 on each cylinder.

Problem solved, one of the gaskets wasn't seated correctly.

Thanks for you help all
