Yeah no licking the battery either but think this may be the problem.

How far up the wire was that break, and can you just make a temp repair , to see if that was the problem, they will have to be twisted together really tight at present just to get some flow

Could be on the right track now CW, I will have a look on ebay for another cable complete, if you can twist those together tight and insulate it, just to see if you can get it to turn over

Going way back to the start ....

Did the engine turn over when you bridged the solenoid terminals ?

And do you still have the old starter motor ?

Okey dokey, put the solenoid back on, and just a reminder ,the positive lead from the battery to the "B" on the solenoid, and then have a look at the connections between the "M" post on the solenoid and the starter motor :thumb:

Okay. Now need your brains again please. Had mechanic out and says the engine is ceased. He checked the oil and it was bone dry , also tried to move the rear wheel but did not move. NOW before you think yes the engine is ceased too. He Che ked the oil while on its sidestand. I checked the oil uupright and the oil is fine. Now when he tried to move the rear wheel he put it into gear. Sooooo....know what? Thoughts greatly welcomed.

You would need the bike in gear ( top gear easiest) to be able to turn the engine by hand (using the back wheel )

Or if you can locate the crankshaft /flywheel nut and turn it by hand using socket (should be able to locate in manual) with the bike out of gear

I am wondering if .... there has been an issue with the replacement starter motor that has locked the starter motor up .

I would be tempted to remove starter motor and test it off the engine and also just to see if the engine turns by hand both BEFORE removal and AFTER .

Look what I found. It had tape around it so thought would see what is under it.

Yes the cable. Should order the new one. For £3 different can know for sure the new one is brand new. No dodgy repairs been done on it.

Yes but the new one comes with delivery £4.50 for 3 to 5 days or £7.50 for 1 to 3 days, probably still wouldn't get it till next week, has your Dad got one hanging about or have you got a scrap yard nearby ,you could take the old one with you and compare, me I hate paying out money :thumb:

No he does not. He has only just got into bikes himself. I am running out of money but need my bike on the road. I have no bike to get to scrap yards. Do not want to keep asking my biker dad as he is dealing with the estate of his mother's death. Me annoying him is not helping.
