JackDM Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Hi folks,I'm looking for radios for me and my brother for when we go out riding, I've looked at most bluetooth headsets and find that they all have the same issues - require line of sight to work, which is a pain when you could be separated driving through a city and all it takes is a sprinter van to break up communication! Is their any bike-to-bike radios that use UHF or suitable means other than bluetooth? Stu Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 They are ok best with line of sight they won't just stop working with a van between you The wife goes through the house to open the back gate and we can still talk through the headset Quote
Six30 Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 we got Sena Bluetooth works fine , van or any thing won't stop it working, works up to a good distance to. Quote
JRH Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Bluetooth nominal range is about 10 metres and will pass through several brick walls easily so a sprinter van will not interfere with the signal, most bike intercom units easily exceed that. Scala units quote approx 1 mile. Quote

If you get a Harley FLHTCU you could enjoy CB communication. Quote
Joeman Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Since the range of Bluetooth is so small, they must only be using Bluetooth to connect the headset to phones/satnavs. To achieve usable range, they must be using another technology, probably just VHF with some digital encoding going on for the pairing. Mawsley Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 If we'd had b-2-b comms this weekend I'd currently be hunting out divorce lawyers. Quote
