I recently applied some good quality exhaust wrap to my CG125. I think I done a pretty good job and avoided any areas I shouldn't cover. Only the exhaust pipe.

However, just took it out for 10 minutes and the damn things smoking like hell! Common sense would be to remove it I guess, but I though being glass fibre it would be ok with the heat?

Is this what happens with new exhaust wrap, or am I missing something!

Thanks,

James

I suspect it's normal if it's a wrap specifically designed for exhausts. It'll probably have some chemicals on it that burn off initially but wouldn't do it every time you ride.

Can anyone tell me what exhaust wrap is actually supposed to do ?

Wrap the exhaust. Any other questions, please just ask.

Exhaust wrap is usually used to prevent the heat from the exhaust getting where you don't want it to be - eg in classic cars with hotter engines it's common to wrap the exhaust to prevent the engine bay getting too hot.

And on a cg125 ?

It's retro. Innit.

It is retrospective, is it not ? Indeed a homage to those halcyon days when a neatly bandaged exhaust pipe was considered the epitome of automotive chic . At last I understand . And to think that I once thought it was pointless and shit .
