bonio Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 If your local plodsatbulary does them, why not try a BikeSafe course? It's designed to be a intro to advanced training. It gives you a good idea about what advanced training is about, the kind of things you could learn, and it's a good way to test it out before deciding to go any further. They will also put into touch with local groups where you can get further training from if that's what you want. Quote
Hoggs Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 wot Bonio saidI did the bikesafe last month it was a lot of fun. IAM keep calling me now though Quote
Nn12Honda Posted October 12, 2017 Author Posted October 12, 2017 It looks like the bike safe is all booked up around me untill next year . I'll have a look at the others also thanks for advice Quote
Lateralus Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Wot they said. I did a Bikesafe course earlier this year, and have just completed the IAM one too. Mrs Lat appreciated being able to come on the Bikesafe course too, as she now gets more out of being a pillion, so worth looking into that if you have a regular pillion rider. The IAM course is built on exactly the same principles as Bikesafe, but obviously goes into a lot more detail than can be achieved on a single day course. I've gotten a lot out of doing the further training, which I also started about 5 months after getting my first bike. IAM do initial taster sessions from time to time, so you could contact your local group and see if there are any planned as a free trial. May well not be until the spring now though - I know my local group seems to be more summer-focused. Quote

Have a look round and go and visit one of their group meetings to get a feel for it.Bikesafe is being phased out in quite a few areas for various reasons, but even if you do one, you would only be directed towards a local group anyway. You are choosing a good time in your riding career to start advanced riding as you will still be receptive to the idea of learning, and the 99% of the rubbish you are taught to pass the L test can easily be corrected.
