Guest Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Hi folks. Bought a bike ( moto roma sk125) and rode home (40 miles ish) and got halfway back and noticed bit of blowing and backfire. Noticed a pipe melted (see pic) it melted at point of engine. It goes to the fuel tank. I replaced it with some air hose but it melted again. It was running fine with hose on.https://photos.app.goo.gl/163nAShS2bLcc6R032 questions. 1 its obviously not fuel as it still rides sooooo2 whats it for? And what should i use to fix it? Quote
TimR Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Vacuum or pressure hose to the fuel tank is my guess Quote
_amw_ Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I don't know what it is. It could be some kind of air-injection type emissions thing, maybe...However, given the bike works better with it not melted, I'd go for that option It's right above the exhaust which is probably why it melted. If you can find some higher-temperature (silicone rubber?) hose then that will help. You could also stick some exhaust wrap around the top of the exhaust header to try and reduce the temperature of the outside. Quote
Mr Fro Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Yeah, looks like an emission control system. Is it brand new or a second hander? Quote
TimR Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Pipe has been modified by looks of it http://suprememotos.com/uploads/postfotos/moto-roma-sk-125-2.JPGPerhaps using a heatshield or shielding wrap may help Quote
TimR Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Or spend a tenner on correct part http://startright.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1720_441_1511&products_id=77955 Quote
fastbob Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Yes , it's an emissions control device , not entirely sure how it works . It looks like yours has been messed with , the metal part should be a lot longer with only the top part made of rubber which explains why its melting. http://i.imgur.com/edtG0Hl.png this whole system is £10 second hand. Joeman Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 It lets fresh air into the exhaust to dilute the gasses and make the emissions cleaner. With it unblocked/leaking you'll get bangs and pops and possibly flames out of the exhaust. Block it up and all will be fine. Quote
