manxie49 Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Bought this helmet to replace an Array that I dropped, had never owned a Shoei before so this was a suck it and see exercise, bought online from SBS, item arrived well packaged and delivery only took a day, always iffy about buying helmets online but from experience know that SBS will exchange them with no quibble and no hassle.Helmet comes with chin curtain, nose guard (breath deflector), helmet bag and pinlock insert, from the minute I took it out of the box I was impressed, oozes quality and looks really good in the matt black colour. Firstly the fit: It fit perfectly, probably one of the most comfortable helmets I have ever owned, it feels like I could ride a lot of miles in this one without getting headaches or forehead pain, the padding is excellent and feels like it will give a lot of protection, it gets a sharp star rating of 3. Next noise reduction, worn it for the first time on the road today, noticeably quieter than my Arai, hardly any wind noise at all, I was very surprised at how quiet it actually was when the visor was fully closed. The interior lining of the helmet can be removed for washing and is made from soft anti microbial material, had a go at removing the liner today and can report that it is pretty easy to remove and reinstall into the helmet. The helmet has vents on the chin guard and on the top and rear, never tried them when I was out, kept them closed as it was bloody freezing today! They look pretty functional though and again very easy to operate, had the chin vent open and the visor remained clear, so seemed to do its job ok. The helmet comes with a drop down sun visor, looks ok but haven't tried in in the sun yet, I personally think it may not come far enough down, for this reason I'd give it a good rather than perfect, its easy to operate though, even with gloved hands. The helmet visor is a little stiff to operate, however I'm presuming its because the helmet is new, it'll probably loosen up a bit in time. One thing that is going to be an absolute godsend for me it the fact that it is designed specifically for the sena 10u intercom system, this system his supposed to be pretty good, albeit not cheap, will be getting one before my trip abroad later this year so will let everyone know how it fairs, and also how easy it is to install into the helmet. All in all, thus far, I think this helmet is brilliant, one of the best I've owned, not cheap but you get what you pay for, would definitely recommend it for the touring / sport touring rider, I don't think you could ask for a better, more comfortable all rounder, I give it five stars. Joeman Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 This is my only complaint about the GT-Air.The internal visor doesn't protect your eyes from wind if you have the main visor open.Heres a pic that shows why.The little breath guard deflects the wind up under the internal visor right into your eyes HJC helmets dont have this problem.. I gave my HJC away to a mate when I bought me GT-Air Quote
Mr Fro Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 Can you remove the breath guard,? Yeah, it pops right out. Quote

If we ever get any Quote
Pbassred Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 My GT Air is my first helmet in 30 years! I agree about the breath guard but for a different reason. My tinted visor mists up in the cold, because? ...... the breath guard doesn't go anywhere near my face so my hot breath just goes onto the visor - even with the main visor cracked open. What they need is a couple of breath guard options.I wish that the visor opening tab was at the bottom instead of the side so that the visor didn't twist when yo try to open it, but that's not limited to Shoei. The GOAT Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 My GT Air 5 years old now and ready to be replace. Great lid only let down lack of "air" flow to the front vent (useless) especially on a GS.I would get another as its super comfy but I think i'm going for the Neotec 2 for touring & the integrated Sena appeals somewhat.I only hope it's more aero for my bike. Slowlycatchymonkey Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Yep had a helmet salesman tell me the same thing. 5 years is a selling thing, his helmet is currently 10 years old and he can choose what he wants without paying. Quote

I know but time for a change anyways, mine got hit hard by a nice stone, felt like a bullet! removed paint and chipped the lid plus 20,000 miles, time for a refresh Quote
Slowlycatchymonkey Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 The Neotec 2 (from my limited experience) is fantastic. Quote
Mr Fro Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 I really like my GT Air - only problem is it was the model before the sun visor thing. Going to & from uni I'm always facing the sun so I could really use the visor... Can I justify a new one seeing as mine is only a few years old... Hmm... Quote
