Yamaha MT 125 Snaking

Hi

My bike feels like the back wheel is loose, I feel as if the back end is twitchy.

Wheel nuts are tight, can anyone suggest anything to check ?

Is it Torqued to the right lb's

Wheel alignment? Warped disc? Chain and sprockets ok?

What speed is this at?

I had a combination of aftermarket screen and top box that caused a weave at higher speeds that felt like the back wheel was all over the place.

Check the tyre pressures, front and rear, and also the wear pattern on the tyres. Road riding can cause a tyre to develop edges which throw the handling out.

Make sure it's aligned right as well.

It’s a 17 plate with only 350 miles, I’m 2nd owner.

Seems to wiggle randomly at about 40.

I bought from a reputable dealer recently, they checked everything I assume before giving me it.

Take it back to the dealer and ask them to check it over, it should have some sort of warranty depending on how recent you bought it.

Otherwise Tyre pressures is best place to start .

Didn't it come with a handbook? The tyre pressures and all the other technical stuff, torques etc, will be in there, normally at the back. But, as said, take it back and get them to check it over.

I definitely think you should take it back as not fit for purpose. Just a note though, from experience I would say that quite often what seems to be a back wheel handling issue is actually a front wheel issue and vice versa. Have you given the front end a good yanking to check for play in the head stock and wheel bearings? Also , does either tyre get unusually hot pointing to incorrect inflation ? At least if you have some idea what's wrong you won't get fobbed off by the dealer . Don't try to fix it though or they will hold you responsible for the fault . Good luck.

There was zero pressure in the back tyre.

I pumped up to 29psi this morning, already down to about 26psi.

I’ll need to get it checked for leaks, no obvious nails in rubber etc.

Unsure if your bike has tubes similar to a pysh bike

But if been ridden on flat then tyre may be damaged beyond repair.

That sucks. The dealer will say that you picked up a nail on the way home and not their fault. Let's hope you haven't wrecked the tyre. Though might be worth getting a new tyre for piece of mind

Stick it in the sink , watch carefully for bubbles . If its the valve , not so bad , if its the tyre not so good . If you live like me you may want to do the washing up first.

I might just get a flexi tub with water and drop back end in with valve submerged.

Tyre looks good as I’ve hardly used the bike since I’ve had it for 2 weeks.

Do the washing up !

It could be the seal between the tyre bead and the wheel.

Look for bubbles around the rim.

I spoke with the “reputable dealer”, sorry we won’t cover this, but book yourself in for repair/replacement......thanks but no thanks.

I think that customer service is poor, they could of offered a discount at least.

I’m now looking for a local tyre repair garage that don’t need the wheel taken off as I don’t have a paddock stand.

Tbh .... I never expected the dealer to say they would fix it free but I’m convinced this was an existing fault before I picked bike up.

I’ve probably done 10 miles since I bought it.

At least I know where not to go when I’m upgrading or looking for accessories.

It is probably best if you invest in a paddock stand as the wheel will almost certainly have to come off to fix it and then balance it properly, unless you find an indie to do it for you.

So you might not need a new tyre then . The tyre might just need removing and the rim cleaning up before being re seated . My mate had car tyres fitted but one didn't stay up so he went back and the fitter just took it off , scrubbed off the rust with a wire brush , and put it back .

Yes that looks like the culprit. The tyre still needs to be removed though to sort it.

Still need to buy a paddock stand though, I’m going to need it.
