megawatt Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 (edited) Clutch coverIf anybody is thinking of stripping their wet clutch, here what my GSX1100 ET one looks like. Most are similar. Edited July 17, 2018 by megawatt Quote
megawatt Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 Yeah there's loads but I'm struggling to post them all in order of stripping. Quote
Stu Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Yeah there's loads but I'm struggling to post them all in order of stripping. just upload them all then use the place in line and jiggle them about to get them in the right order Quote
megawatt Posted July 17, 2018 Author Posted July 17, 2018 I'll try. Can't get em in correct order. Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Nice one Mega.A clutch is just about the only thing I've not had call to do so I appreciate having a shufti! Quote
Westbeef Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Is that needle bearing in the middle of the basket the one that can cause some rattles Occasionally? Is it easy to replace if required? Quote
megawatt Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Not normally a problem on GSXs. The back of the basket has 6 cush springs. They eventually sag and rattle. I'll post another piccy of the back of the basket. Quote
Stu Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Is that needle bearing in the middle of the basket the one that can cause some rattles Occasionally? Is it easy to replace if required? Waste of time and money! It will rattle again seconds later Quote
Stu Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I'll try. Can't get em in correct order. It's far easier to rename your pics with the number order ie 1 2 3 4........ Then just upload them all and hit the place in line in the relevant orderIf you are placing them in line it makes no odds what order you upload them Quote
Westbeef Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Is that needle bearing in the middle of the basket the one that can cause some rattles Occasionally? Is it easy to replace if required? Waste of time and money! It will rattle again seconds later If I ever got that far I’d probably throw a new clutch in and do the springs Mega mentioned anyway . Quote

Westbeef Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 At least if I replace everything I can have peace of mind . Quote
Bianco2564 Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Good info.Just to highlight some differences between bikes; On the R1 this has a diaphragm clutch so no coil springs. On the RGV it doesn't have a needle bearing in the centre of the clutch basket, just a steel bush running in a bronze sleeve. Also on the RGV it has two thick steel washers/spacers either side of the outer basket, both different thicknesses, easily missed when stripping it down.Mega,is that all a std clutch? megawatt Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 At the moment yes. I'm modding it to fit extra plates and fitting a billet backplate with stiffer springs.Just for drag racing. Quote

JRH Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 He does like giving money away. And if I was to do it myself, who would I be giving money away to? whoever makes the bit that gets broken when you torque the bolts back up Quote
mikestrivens Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 He does like giving money away. And if I was to do it myself, who would I be giving money away to? parts manufacturers, unless you are going to make them all yourself. Quote
megawatt Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Why would you replace everything, when there's only something wrong with part of it. Why not buy another bike instead? Quote
Westbeef Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Why would you replace everything, when there's only something wrong with part of it. Why not buy another bike instead? It was a joke, but if the parts are cheap then it also wouldn’t do any harm. Quote
fastbob Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I've actually got a set of pre soaked new clutch plates in my saddle bags just in case these Scottish roads get the better of the ER5. So far , so good . Quote
