geofferz Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 HiThese are the metal things that splay when you tighten the screw. I've remove the screw but the ends are stuck in - any ideas? Quote
Stu Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Are you sure yours come out? A lot are solid rubber with a thread inserted in it and designed to stay in Quote

Put the bolt back in but only screw it in half way , then just give it a little tap with a hammer and the whole thing should come out . Quote
geofferz Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Are you sure yours come out? Now I want to switch back but they seem stuck in, which I get (as the screw forces them outwards) but I wanna know how to remove them Quote

geofferz Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Right next one - my throttle sticks open when I tighten my bar end. Which is probably unsafe. Any clues? I can't have it less tight or it'll probably fall off... Quote
Stu Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Right next one - my throttle sticks open when I tighten my bar end. Which is probably unsafe. Any clues? I can't have it less tight or it'll probably fall off... sounds like the bar end is catching on the throttle grip Quote
fastbob Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Have a look to see if the throttle tube is extended beyond the handle bar . If it is you could see if you can move it inwards a bit by moving the whole assembly but if there is a locating peg and a little hole in the bars then this may not be possible. The alternative is to strip the whole thing and sand paper a little bit off the end of the throttle tube . Having said all that , have you tried just pushing the grip away from the bar end a bit ? Can we see some pics of this please in order to eliminate the guess work ? Another possibility might be to just move the bar end out a mm or so to stop it rubbing on the grip or the throttle tube . fastbob Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Surely your not tightening it so much that the handle bar is actually expanding ? Quote
geofferz Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Yeah nothing obvious - doesn't seem to be touching anything, not too tight that it could expand the handlebar... https://youtu.be/529owB99oPU Quote
mikestrivens Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Maybe it looks like you need a spacer to hold the bar end further out as you tighten it. Quote
Stu Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 it's definitely touching as when you loosen it again and twist the throttle you see the bar end move It will be inside the grip and not actually at the end Quote
TimR Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 try loosening the throttle housing screws and see if you get any movement away from bar end . most are located on a spigot into the bar but this can give a few mm tolerance . Quote
geofferz Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 One for tomorrow once I'm sober again methinks - thanks chaps Quote
geofferz Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 Sorted! I managed to leave the bar ends a mm out so it didn't touch the throttle tube (I'm learning lots in this process like the grips are glued on etc - I had no idea!) so all good. Thank you all. Before After Sure they look cooler from the side but what I'd failed to appreciate was how much cleaner the view from the saddle is - nothing gets in the way of your vision - so much nicer! They are quite small - I'd perhaps prefer them slightly bigger (I didn't check the size!) but actually compared to the stock mirrors you can probably see more because they clear your body. Haven't ridden with them yet but they appear to be solid - everything works it it should, nice and tight. Would recommend, especially for £19.95 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F222535871709 Quote
Fleck Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Result! Very similar to mine, fitted mine with an M6 bolt straight into the thread. Had to fit a penny washer on the throttle side to allow clearance. Good quality tinted glass and the rest all metal, were about the same price on ebay. Quote
