How to remove sticky tape from rims ?

I've had a search but can't find any tips, so apologies if it's been covered before.

After getting tyres fitted and re- balanced, the sticky tape used to hold the previous balance weights is left on the wheel and looks unsightly. What can I use to remove this sticky tape / glue ?

PS - WD40 hasn't worked !

WD40 or white spirit and scrape with a credit type card. WD40 takes longer than white spirit.

I used white spirit and a toothbrush.

You can get 10 child’s toothbrushes for £2 at B&M so use them for cleaning stuff then chuck away.

If they are soft enough for their teeth you won’t have to worry about scratching your wheel rims.

I forgot I’ve got a bottle of that.

Used it to get the glue residue off my Step daughters Clio when I was replacing the rear window / door seal.

It kind of melted the old glue and it came off in sticky balls, a lot like snot but not as salty.

Which begs the question "and how do you know?"

I first used this question to great effect when I was teaching a student who had just undertaken a particularly hot and strenuous breathing apparatus drill. As a consequence, he was drinking a large cup of the (admittedly disgusting) saline solution we used to use for rehydration after these exercises.

His comment was "effing hell this stuff tastes like monkey sp*nk". Cue question. Oh how we laughed.

This is the best stuff.

Apply with a brush leave for about 2 mins and scrape off with a credit card! Depending on finish Acetone or isopropyl alcohol to clean surface afterwards.

I mentioned this when I was picking my bike up from my local Motorrad dealer. The salesman produced a bottle of "Tar and Glue" which he was good enough to use to clean the sticky tape residue from both my wheels. A short soak, brush with a toothbrush then clean off with a rag - et voilà - clean wheels !

So - Sticky Stuff Remover, or Tar & Glue to be sourced for next time !
