Piggy Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Hey ho!Anybody here into home brewing or wine making or distilling? I'm into wines but always willing to experiment. Not so much into beer making but Ive done a few ciders and some experiments with fractioning. I do a cracking pear and ginger wine Quote
Fleck Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Made some wine years ago, tasted terrible so shelved it for a year. Next time I tried one (must have been desperate) it was delicious Not bothered since, too much faffing when you can buy it easily. Quote
MarkW Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I made some last year. It worked out at less than £2 a bottle, and tasted like it. Quote
Mr Fro Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I've been making beer for about a year now. Mostly kits to start with but now I make everything from scratch.I enjoy the process and I end up with tasty stuff most of the time. Quote
rennie Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 I keep threatening to make my own cider!I've got most of the kit.I've just never quite got round to it Quote
Smithers Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Hey ho!Anybody here into home brewing or wine making or distilling? I'm into wines but always willing to experiment. Not so much into beer making but Ive done a few ciders and some experiments with fractioning. I do a cracking pear and ginger wine I had a go at home brewing years ago making beer and wine. The beer process was quite quick and I ended up with 3 barrels constantly on the go. One fermenting, one settling, and one drinking. The ales and wine were, I have to say very nice and very economical in terms of shop prices for similar products. Sadly it had become a race with the beer drinking so as not to leave the fermentation barrel stood for too long. I felt I was in danger of becoming a chronic alcoholic so made the decision to stop brewing and revert back to the odd trip to the off license. Quote
MikeHorton Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Hi piggy, I regularly make beer and spirits and occasionally wine. Beer from decent kits and partial mash. If interested in partial mash buy a brewing book by Graham wheeler it's really good and tells you all you need to know. I made my own beer boiler which is perfect for the jobSpirits wise I bought a still spirits distiller at 130 quid seems pricey but if you use it a lot it works out really cheap about 2 quid a bottle Quote

Kelbam Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 I made some elderflower champagne once Surprisingly easy to make and it tasted good too! Quote
MikeHorton Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 A circuitous route to alcoholism if you're not careful. In all fairness I drink less now I brew my own just spend less on it. I have a job where I can't be drinking the night before work which helps. Its just nice to make ur own stuff sometimes but I guess if u have no will power etc homebrew Is not for all Quote
MikeHorton Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Yes elderflower champagne is v nice love the taste of elderflowers. I'm always on the lookout for elderflowers but have to get there quick before someone else picks it! Mead is another cheap and easy one. But once bottled best left for about 5 yrs to taste its best Quote
rennie Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 A circuitous route to alcoholism if you're not careful. There's nothing circuitous about it!I'm going straight there, full throttle! Quote
