Throttled Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Today's government permitted time outside and exercising was washing a very dirty bike. I found that that water is not draining from around the filler cap. I poked a twig as far as I dare down the little hole, that did not work. Any suggestions as to how to clear whatever is blocking the water from draining, thanks. Quote
dynax Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 compressed air, some squirty degreaser like brake cleaner or chain cleaner Quote
Throttled Posted March 24, 2020 Author Posted March 24, 2020 Thanks. I have some air in a can for cleaning computers and it comes with a WD40 type straw that would be ideal to squirt down the hole. I will try that. Quote
fastbob Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 There will be a drain hose coming from underneath the tank . It's probably got twisted , melted on the engine or shitted up in some way . That's where I'd be looking . Quote
Gerontious Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Way I used to fix this on my GS was to stuff some paper towels into the petrol fill.. and then blow up the tube. That always cleared it and the paper towels would stop (whatever it was) getting inside the tank. Quote
QBoiii Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 another way is to straighten a metal coat hanger, (not that you see many of these nowadays) and poke that down the hole Quote
Ian Frog Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 If you must go the invasive route don't use the coat hanger.I speak with experience having dealt with Mazda MX5 drain holes (Google it lol). There is a thing called a trombone cleaner available on Ebay for about a fiver. It is a flexible plastic coated wire with what I can only describe as an emaciated hamster on the tail end.Absolutely brilliant for clearing drainage holes. Please check first as some have non return flaps in them so direction can be important.CheersIan Quote
