Got VFR MOTd today.

 

Always a bit of stress as I seem to have a thing about getting my bikes wet.  I suppose it is all the hard work put into restoring them back to showroom condition.

Took the VFR down to SJ Biketech in Selby, an outfit I never heard of before looking for bike mots last week and asked about booking it in. I was not happy with the previous place.  They listened to my wet weather bleatings, came out to look at a 25 year old, showroom fresh bike, agreed it would be a shame to get it muddy and said if I got a good weather window anytime this week, I could take it round and they would sort it without an appointment.

 

So a shout out to SJ Biketech.  A friendly bunch.

Had the bike picked up by bmw today :shock:

 

It had to go in for some recalls to be done the other week. 

 

One of which was a software update but for some reason it wouldn't accept the update! 

 

They need the bike during the week to hook it up and contact Germany to intervene. 

 

Picked it up after I finished work and will do the update and drop it back off to my home. 

 

All free of charge! 

 

Don't listen to what everyone says about bmw 😁

tried out some grip puppies.

a marked improvement on vibration. the extra girth made my throttle hand ache a bit though.

hopefully ill get used to them.

Agree, most were ok but not quite sure which few weren’t uk made… depending on how you feel about uk dependence…personally I had 75% good rating on the Avons. 
the only single blot was the storm 2 for some reason which were a replacement rear and they were shocking so poor compared to any other tyre (managed to write a bike off) I’ve had including my much hated bt23 which I really hate those fing things, only positive was I some how not managed to not write off a bike with those things. 🤪

The original storms were fantastic! Two up, over loaded with luggage and shite (no idea) and absolutely terrible weather conditions that cars were doing 50mph at max while we were bumbling along at 80.
3d xm were really good, sooooo much better than Pirelli st’s and Bridgestone 23s that I’ve had on any bikes including almost track tyres in the rain- thats my PO.

 

if you lack confidence I’d suggest a harder carcass and compound first over what you had that you lacked confidence.

 

a fat arse moulds itself around a small seat for more surface area and grip 🤡😅🤪

KTM camshaft fears allayed, tucked it in the garage, out of sight out of mind. Instead I now have something green to ride.

I did ask Martin if he could shift out from ruining my image!! He did not and moved in for closer inspection/annoyance.

Oil leak fixed (hopefully) on the Tiger. Brought it home, tried to be a clever sod and dropped it on the drive 😂. No damage.

It's a Z900. Nice to be on "boring" Japanese again.

Took the Bobber in for its MOT - which it passed no problem. Then it got a wash after last week's ride out to Derbyshire when we got a dry day until the last half hour.

Got out of bed, saw the sun.  Thought I woukd take a ride out....

So a cup of my favourite french arabica bean beverage ( of course proper cup with saucer, drank with pinky held out... Do you think i am a heathen?) While sitting, I contemplated my first world problem... With three bikes to take out and so little time, which one to take?

 

 VFR had its MOT and a short outing Monday, Little Yeller hmmm, not sure.  I decided to take the DT175 for a spin, note its normal running temp on a 20 mile run and then change the #130 main jet for the new #135 I had ordered. Trip done, jet changed, trip repeated.  Changing the jet dropped the CHT from averaging around 185C to 165C.  I cannot say it made much difference to the power though, but a far cooler temp is not a bad thing.

 

Little Yeller rides again tomorrow morning.

I dropped the Bobber yesterday turning round at a road that was closed for emergency repairs. I failed to spot that where I was turning had an adverse camber that was steeper than it looked. 

 

I have crash bobbins fitted so apart from a slight scratch on the exhaust all is well.

Got the RGV gearbox back together and moved onto the radiator. Want to clean it, straighten all the bent fins and repaint it.

After that I’ll be taking the exhausts off to repaint them.

I am getting to the point where I might just drop the engine out and give it all a good clean, will be easier to service the power valves as well.

Decided to stop mucking about and pulled the engine out.

Everything came undo easily, it’s about 6 years since it was last out and done around 1500 miles. Considering it’s never been ridden in the rain, it’s proper grimy.

Oil n' filter on the Tiger.

Only a few drips on the drive this time. It's an improvement 😂

Spent more time digging out a windows laptop to run the software to reset the service interval.

Adjusted the chain aaaannnnndddddd one of the adjusters was seized. So a 15 minute job took 45 minutes or so. Then filled the Scott oiler.

Next was an oil change. Didn’t have enough oil so off to Halfords aaannnnddd they do not appear to do bike oil in 10-40 any more so had to get Castrol.

its a similar price to Halfords except you only get 4 litres not 5. Anyway the trade card came in handy again.

Nothing's ever easy. 

 

The green machine has been through it's rigorous roadworthiness test now so I've ordered the service stuff, except plugs and air filter. Everything looks a doddle on a naked, I err hope. 

 

The previous owner put ktech front and back on it but I've had the ktech shock in for a service, at a setup down Rotherham. I wasn't very impressed with its riding characteristics - it was bucking right up over rough stuff, except at fully wound in on the rebound - which you aren't meant to do. Proper bouncing. I've put the original shock on it for now, which is better but I've got to go back and collect the ktech one, didn't take long. They've said they didn't really see anything wrong with it, but we'll see. I'll refit it and retest, see if I go flying off again. They've repaved all the roads round me, it's hard work finding a crap bit to test on, what a bother.
