Tiggie Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Ow Be careful when playi....I mean working with a bench grinder Anyone else want to share some similar stupid mistakes they've made? This one was obviously nothing, just got me thinking about how such a silly little mistake can have painful consequences. If I get more than 5 stories I'll show you all what happened when I slipped and put my hand in the fish pan Quote
Bender Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I could write a book weekly on self inflicted injuries, worst a couple of year ago was burying a stanley knife in my leg, stitches hospital back to work. Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I too have many self inflicted injuries like drilling some flat metal and the drill bit snapped and what remained in the drill made abit of a mess of my thumb nail Quote
Tiggie Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 Just remembered I have a scar on my other thumb from an angle grinder mishap about 8 years ago Maybe I need to stay away from tools with grinder in the name (there's a joke there if anyone wants to take it!) Quote

Bender Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 When I was young I almost fainted, was cutting carpet for my landy to absorb the water so the carpet would freeze in the winter. It's a landy thing. Wasnt the knife it was the razor edged steel straight edge, slipped off steel, (using edge of Wall) straight over metacarpophal joint index finger on right hand, said ouuch a few times, held with other hand, didn't feel too bad, let go, so far so good, bit blood, wiggle finger bit more blood, bent finger, skin peeled white joint popped straight through, had diminishing vision and had to sit down.Got back up after feeling rather stupid, stuck finger back together with insulating tape and finished off carpet. Bender Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 @Bender OUCH!!!!! Was long time ago but I remember it well, that's nothing to the things I inadvertently did as s a kid, I was a nightmare for my poor mother. Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 That's pretty gory mate but hey what doesn't kill you makes you stronger eh Quote

On floor at bottom of stairs contemplating clean up lol.CheersIan Quote

Tiggie Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 My boss loves to tell a story of when he worked in an envelope factory as the manager. He came in at 7am and saw that one of the nightshift workers had a piece of wood duct taped to his arm. Turned out the guy had broken his arm on the way to work the night before and decided he should do his shift before going to the hospital Quote

Guest Richzx6r Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Or when you have a bike accident that rips off a finger nail......it didnt hurt until the copper who turned up pointed out the injury as I was more peeved than the cager had just pulled across right in front of me to feel the pain of it but once the copper brought it to my attention then the heartbeat throb kicked in and my god I think it would have hurt less if I'd lopped the finger off with a pair of bolt croppers!!! Then.....when I was at the hospital the nurse said I'd have to clean it under the tap which she said for me to put my arm under the tap and let the water run down the arm to the finger but I instead just rammed my finger under the water and proceeded to go rather lightheaded and curse like you would never believe. The wife was going mad at the words coming out of my mouth Quote
Tiggie Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 My dad once had an accident at a quarry he was working in. Got a piece of metal stuck through his hand.He was laughing and joking about it on way to hospital. Said he felt barely any pain at all. "It just tickled a bit" was what he claimed He completely changed his tune when they removed it and shouted loud enough to wake the morgue when it was time for cleaning Quote
Guest Richzx6r Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Yeah the cleaning is probably the worst bit, especially when the bone is accessible and they hit it and all you can hear is the clicking of metal on bone...... Quote
Tiggie Posted May 15, 2020 Author Posted May 15, 2020 Would anyone like to hear my dentist extraction story? tough you are anyway I had a lower molar that needed coming out and my Dentist couldn't do it (she tried for an entire & very horrible 40 minute appointment which felt like something from a prisoner of war film!)I was referred to a specialist who after taking a look said there are two ways I can do this.Option 1: I will cut open your gum line and push the tooth out from below it. You will experience a little discomfort but will have a couple of weeks of soreness and will need stitches.Option 2: I can try extracting with my tools, there will be considerable discomfort now but no stitches required I choose option 2 like a moron He gave me a quick numbing shot and then proceeded to use what looked like an old fashioned corkscrew. He just kept screwing it down and down onto the tooth until I heard and felt it crack You can imagine the force he needed to use to do that as well He then picked out all the bits of broken tooth, stuffed some cotton wool in the empty socket and bid me a good day Quote
