what is considered high mileage on a 4 stroke 125? i’ve seen plenty of bikes online selling for a relatively low price but they all seem to have mileage over 10k. Just wondering weather it’s worth spending extra on a lower mileage bike.

thanks.

Well obviously the lower the mileage the better but be aware if the mileage is very low as you could be buying a bike that has been standing for long periods so seals/bearings could be problematic on average maybe 5 or 6 thousand miles a year is normal or it's what I was doing on my 125

Depends on age. Mine was 12 years old with 22,000 miles when I bought it. Didnt sound bad to me as it works out around 1800 miles a year averaged out.

It's not the miles it's the maintenance.🔧🔧🔧 😉

My original CG winter hack had over 44 on the clock by the time I got shot. The old ones were absolutely bombproof.

And if it's Chinese, it's not the miles or the maintenance - it's the years, because as soon as it's old enough to need an MOT, chances are it's not going to pass

What about a bike that has low mileage and has been looked after very well. Problem is it’s been sat in a garage for a while apparently 😬

Got to be careful with that; standing in a garage for a while can look well looked after but that doesn't mean it's actually in good shape on the inside. Really depends on how much care went into the process of garaging it in the first place.

I bought a 125 a couple of years ago (I think).

The previous owner promised it was in excellent condition and had just been serviced etc.

Imagine my surprise when the thing ground to a near halt a few miles from home one day. Turns out they forgot to tighten a valve adjuster lock nut which worked it's way loose.

It was only a 10 minute job but I shall forever shake my bony fist in their general direction.

So a bike that has had 23,000 over 11 years aint so bad? Works out at about 2,100 a year.

I'd say thats low mileage for that age bike. It all depends how its been looked after of course :D

You have to take into account the resale value if you care, bikes with under 10k typically sell faster due to the illusion of better quality
