jedibiker Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Hey allI went and bought some goldfren pads, did see good reviews on the product section of eBay. Then when looking in general saw lots of bad reviews. But no-one saying WHY they are crap.. The initial description sounded good and they cost around the same as other pads. cheers Quote
dynax Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 ceramics are mainly for race machines as they take quite a lot of heat which for a road bike is pretty pointless as they don't often reach the temperatures to be effective Quote
husoi Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 dynax hit the nail on the head ceramic pads are only used in racing for that reason. Quote
jedibiker Posted September 26, 2020 Author Posted September 26, 2020 ah right, explains why most hate them if used for road only.. these are described as ceramic carbon but no idea if that's different. But its the brand that gets slagged off Quote
jedibiker Posted September 26, 2020 Author Posted September 26, 2020 these are AD for multi use. Quote
husoi Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 You need to keep in mind that some bike model don't like some brands. My ST1300 hates anything that isn't EBC or OEM HH pads. Then you have to consider that some people like "agressive" pads while others like a more softer approach. You also have those who believe that pads that don't last for 50k miles are rubbish while some don't mind changing pads every 10k miles.I would take reviews with a good handful of salt and make your own mind.Personally I never heard of Goldfren but if you think they will perform the way you want just give it a shot. Worse can happen is for you to change them sooner than you would like. Quote
raesewell Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 The worse that could happen is he doesn't stop in time Quote
husoi Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 The worse that could happen is he doesn't stop in time You're not going for a full emergency stop without testing your brakes are you?? Quote

onesea Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 You also have those who believe that pads that don't last for 50k miles are rubbish while some don't mind changing pads every 10k miles. As I change my own pads I would rather change every 10,000 miles than change my discs... Quote
Stu Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 You also have those who believe that pads that don't last for 50k miles are rubbish while some don't mind changing pads every 10k miles. I have a set of pads that would last millions of miles! but they are sat on a shelf I have never got why people use mileage as a measurement of how long pads last If you use them a lot then they won't last as long as not using them as much each rider is different so would get different mileage out of them! A good measurement is do they work and do they stop the bike in good time if so then thye are good pads and just replace once they are done! As for goldfren I have heard nothing but bad about them mainly that they just aren't as good as stopping a bike which is a worry when thats their job Quote
jedibiker Posted September 29, 2020 Author Posted September 29, 2020 I have to say the goldfren so far do a good job. Stopping is better than my old pads anyway, and quieter. Although I did strip the callipers first and put new seals in.. Quote
