mthinesy Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Hi all,Hope you are all well?Quick question into my upcoming bike ownership (tests pending of course). How do dealers handle getting your name down on a bike? I'm a sucker for new bike. 2021 models likely to be launched end of this year and into the dealers in spring. I'm aware that with the current pandemic, delivery times and availability might be a bit tight. Do dealers take a deposit to get your name against one from when they are available to order? What amount is it usually? It's been so long since I've tackled a dealership, not sure what the form is.CheersCol Quote
runningman Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Normally a non-refundable deposit of around £250 will reserve you a new bike.If it's a popular model with a reasonable waiting tine they may even make it a refundable deposit, as they know they'll have someone else who will snap it up by the time it arrives at the dealers.Got your eye on anything in particular? mthinesy Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 Thanks for the reply. I'm aiming for something like an MT07/SV650. Be interesting to see what the 2021 models are like, with the Euro5 regs. I'm also happy to go second hand, but can only see what is on the market come the time. Quote
Gerontious Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 If you want new.. then consider 'new-old'with new models about to appear its often the case that current 2020 bikes unsold will be offered with significant discounts. my own bike definitely was and then as it turned out those people who waited for the new bikes paid a lot more for nothing. the bikes were unchanged aside from a new colour addition. (I laughed) Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 As above, I bought mine unregistered and brand new but later in the year. I paid less for it than a used bike from the previous year. It just depends what various dealers have in stock. The plus side was that it is the colour I wanted which was then no longer available to order. Quote
bonio Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Cheers Gerontious, Mississippi Bullfrog. Currently looking at a new, unregistered 2019 model bike. Only difference with 2020 is the colour, which I happen to like. Works out £1500 cheaper. Dont really want a new bike but if they'll take a deposit and let me complete the sale in March (new plate, longer warranty) it might be a good option. Quote

mthinesy Posted October 21, 2020 Author Posted October 21, 2020 I'm hanging on to see what the changes to the 2021 models are on the MT07 and SV650. Hopefully they are announced soon enough. Quote

Fingers crossed your insurance Co is playing ball about the old one. Quote
