Grumpy Old Git Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Another day arrives and I am still alive (although a blood vessel burst in my left eye yesterday - I look like half a vampire!) 2 1 Quote
S-Westerly Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Good evening and I am utterly pissed off. We've been tank cleaning for damn near a month now and we are still at it. The people directing this from long range are obviously morons. They are complaining about dark patches in the tanks which amazingly run along welded seams. Trying to explain to these fuckwits that because the ship is built in modules (think massive lego) some get a tie coat to prevent surface corrosion developing during construction. Some don't if that particular module goes in quickly so now we have washed the tanks so many times we are in danger of buggering up a main cargo pump. They want us to remove the black. Told them no. They want us to steam the cargo lines. Told them we physically can't. Want us to remove the rust bloom which wasn't there until they had us wash the tanks with some hideous chemical added to the wash water. Told them it was impossible. I'm apparently uncooperative. Too bloody right I am. To add insult to injury we're on the edge of a cyclone and rolling our guts out. 2 1 6 Quote

S-Westerly Posted September 2, 2024 Author Posted September 2, 2024 Roastworks in Exeter are my go to roaster. Join every ship with 16 packs, grinder and aeropress. Theoretically it's a pack a week but currently due to the shit that's going on its more, so by the end of my trip I'll be reduced to the ship's Lavazza coffee which is a bit naff imo. 1 Quote

S-Westerly Posted September 2, 2024 Author Posted September 2, 2024 Yes indeed. My wife sent me a photo from home this morning with it looking decidedly wet. Quote
Fozzie Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Had a productive weekend. My girlfriend is away on the Isle of Wight with family as her mother is ill. I went to a drink up with my Ju-jitsu club on the Saturday, then for some food/drinks with my girlfriends dad and step-mum as they were about. Sunday I took the young lad in my block of flats to the garage and gave him a lesson on engines. I just got a old CBR125 engine delivered, and was absolutely elated to crack it open and see that despite having 15,000 more miles than the original engine, it was mint condition inside, very light general wear. None of the thick carbon deposits, and battered parts that indicated prolonged oil starvation. Young lad seemed to really like it, mother was very appreciative. Found out his dad had passed away a couple of years back, so seems she's trying to give him some positive role models, and help him choose what he wants to do for a living when he gets older. Naturally, at 13, you don't really know! 4 Quote
Tiggie Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 @S-Westerly I see roastworks have a website. I'll give them a try I'm not a huge fan of lavazza either, will drink it in cafes etc but wont buy it for my own use. I used an aeropress for a few years before I got lazy and went the pourover route If I did a lot of traveling I would certainly bring it back out of the cupboard though. Currently I'm drinking Ueshima coffee. It is my fall back coffee when i've tried something new and not been keen. Just has a consistency I like and price is good 2 Quote
