onesea Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 "Cyclists should be able to enjoy the special qualities of our National Parks” "around 80 miles of open moorland, crossed with paths and bridleways suitable for horse riding and cycling, over which there is already an extensive right of access on foot under the Countryside Right of Way Act." https://road.cc/content/news/duke-devonshire-bans-bikes-estate-282993 Quote
manxie49 Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Absolutely ridiculous! These areas are ideal for families and cyclists to enjoy their hobbies in safety, away from busy main roads ..... He should have his tax exemptions revisited and reduced 1 Quote
onesea Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 From what I can see the estate it’s not really is not an appropriate space to mix cyclists and pedestrians. https://www.google.com/search?q=bolton+abbey+estate&rlz=1C9BKJA_enGB790GB791&hl=en-GB&prmd=minv&sxsrf=ALeKk03qSq-B07VYH3BurcyVlot_PpsRgg:1619955231313&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi82_TA86rwAhWoaRUIHfgWBPYQ_AUoAnoECAIQAg&biw=768&bih=909&dpr=2 https://greatacre.wordpress.com/2016/04/08/bolton-abbey-simons-seat-and-wharfedale/ https://boltonabbey.com/your-visit/bolton-abbey-map/ Then living on the edge of a national park, doing my usual dog walk on bank holiday. Slowed by cyclists owning the road to get to car park, abused by cyclists for being in the way on FOOT paths during the walk. Having to educate one dog because he is starting to see them as threat racing passed giving abuse. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 I enjoy cycling on off road paths because traffic and driving standards are so poor. But on the local footpaths round here cyclist have done huge damage during lockdown by riding bikes on footpaths rather than bridleways. The area behind our house is a SSSI wetland area accessed by a raised boardwalk, but cyclists have destroyed it over lockdown. Several farmers have put up signs saying walkers are welcome but this isn't a cycle path. It doesn't stop them though. Quote
Bender Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 Right to access for tax relief is probably not bike specific and going off the speed some cyclists ride around pedestrians I don't blame them. Sounds like it's an issue with a short cut to cycle cafe. Quote
