Hi all, I'm Alan and new to the fold. I live in the north east, I've just entered my 7th decade and am in the financial situation to be able to get me a bike and enjoy the open road again.  Now, I have an quandry, because I'm disabled, I cannot get comfortable or operate the rear brake on a normal road bike due to my leg issue and other disabilites, the main one being the lack of movement in my right leg, I cannot get it to bend anywhere near 90 degrees and therefore onto the footrest of a normal bike. Because of this, I am limited to the type of bike I can ride and operate correctly, I'm also weaker on my right side, so a low centre of gravity and nothing too heavy will have to be on my list of must haves.

So I looked at cruisers and have sat on several, the Harleys are nice, but because of the positioning of the air filter on the right side, I cannot get and keep my foot on the right peg, so that rules them out, I have tried others and the only one a really feel comfortable on, is the Kawasaki Vulcan 650S.

The question is, should I go for a brand fire new one with the warranty and can add my choice of extras or go for a used one with or without extras? I have noticed that the price of secondhand Vulcans are not much cheaper than new ones and some that are 5-6 years old are only £1,000 to £1,500 less than new.

My question might sound stupid, but I really am in the dark and none of my friends are bikers, so I cannot really get a definitive answer or advice to my query.

I hope my new learned friends can offer a little advice I can make use of and eventually a purchase.

Thank you.

Alan.

I'd be leaning towards the new ones. Nothing at all wrong with secondhand (Every vehicle I've ever had has been!) but if the price difference is only that much you might as well get new and have the warranty and the peace of mind of knowing the exact history. 🙂

Adaptations can be made to suit your needs and retrofitted to the majority of bikes, so don't just hold yourself back to one particular make or model.

If going new speak to the dealers to see what adaptations can be done, usually helpful especially if on commission.

I'd go for new unless buying used saves a considerable amount. Knowing you've had the bike from new is a good experience. I've only ever done it once, everything else has been used, but it is good to know it's your bike from the start.

Good luck.

Thank you for the link Bender, at almost £6,700 +£148, what in do you think in reality should I look at paying or a price point I might be able to get a deal at?

Depends how desperate they are for the sale, best going and trying, they often prefer to give extras than take off money but as saying goes shy bairns get nowt 😁
