Hi I need some help please, I've just washed the bike and found a lot of chain lube on the back wheel and around the back end, I think I have put too much on.  I've been riding bikes for over 50 years, but most of the time on Harleys so no need to worry about such things.  I tried to get the lube off with meths but it is taking so long.   Is it safe to used something like Gunk? can that damage the tyre? Is there anything else for the job?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response guys, I'm going to try muc off, I have a trade card for Halfords so I'll pick some up there.

I use a rag soaked in white spirit to clean the excess off then something like Gunk or Muck-off for a final clean.

Meths does not disolve grease or oil very well.

WD40 works well too

Not the cheapest way though

Wheel and back of the bike is already dirty, so just keep riding until chain is dry. 👍👍

I used WD40 to clean my wheels once - just before taking it for a new set of tyres.

The fitter was cursing because the weights wouldn't stick!

I use whatever solvent or degreaser I've got to hand - white spirits, screwfix degreaser, whatever.

A couple of times a year, I use a screwdriver to scrape the build up of lube and crud around the front sprocket and inside the chain guard.
