Ok I have my new to me boat, I would like some canvas work done approx 4- 9oz canvas.

Mainly Straight line sewing, maybe inserting a zip or 2.  Probably less than half a days work, for a reasonable machineist.

Happy to cut cloth with sewing allowances and pin together so they know where to sew.

Unfortunatly industrial machine really required, my old aunts sewing machine is not going to cut it or I would do it myself.

I asked a local company they where £75 an hour plus an hour to rethread the machines, oh and 3-4 month lead time.

The guy who did it lastime sadly has moved on…

Not asking in yachty circles as down here they know how to charge, you do get what you pay for but I don’t want a taylor fit boom cover with whistles and bells..

I want a basic cover easy to get on and off so I can remove and go sailing….

Might be worth asking a local leather craft place their machines are heavy duty :thumb:

Could try caravan awning repairs, or ask at a caravan, camping shop if they know or use anyone for repairs.

It's about 8 oz canvas yet to be bought...

It would be 2 screens about 60cm by 3m 2" hem all round. Shaped bit like parallelogram.

A boom cover about 4m long but only 80cm wide but a little addition for the bulk of sail by mast.  Which would require joining the material, for about 1m.

Happy to cut out and mark up for them if it's easier.

OK this might be a bit more than the machinist could handle. Sorry

No worries I think the Marque repair route might be way to go.  If I had the space at £75 an hour I would do my own and help others….

How industrial does it need to be?

Grace does a lot of stuff and has 2 machines. 1 of which is much more than a hobby machine.

If you could post some rough idea of material being used etc. I can show her tomorrow and see if its something she'd have time to do.

I would try looking for an “off the peg” boom cover that will fit. Like this perhaps:

https://boatworld.co.uk/boatworld-boom-mainsail-cover-8-9-ft

I have no knowledge of this company at all. Just googled and it turned up … at that price if it fits then it’s a no brainer really

Yes and no they are polyester (not good in sun light) and seem to get poor reviews for lasting a year or 2 at best whilst looking cheap and nasty

I know exactly where you are coming from with this. Quality canvas work for boats is expensive. And only seems to last a few years. And needs replacing. … have you considered sewing it by hand?  Not as daft as it sounds. Buy some quality uv resistant thread. Some sailmakers needles. And sew your material over a few evenings in front of the tv.
