Pbassred Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 With MCE apparently on the skids ( except its only their underwriter in Gibralter that ceased, except they can't alter existing policies, so still looking dodgy.) I started looking at what my hassle free alternative might be. My details were still on the meercat so I hit the go button. MCE still cheapest but all expensive. I went back in and started tweeking. Adding personally business use adds sod all as far as I can tell (MCE wanted £150 to make the change). Mileage doesn't seem to change it either. Then I noticed that in the date of purchase field I had "not purchased yet" checked So I entered the actual date. All of the quotes fell by 25%! I have no idea why that makes a difference, but also MCE aren't in the running any more. Odd. Quote

Mississippi Bullfrog Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 An independent broker told me that there's usually an increase when a vehicle change happens. Once you've had it over a year the premium drops slightly. I have no idea why this is, other than they work off statistics so maybe people who keep vehicles longer have fewer accidents than those who change regularly. Quote
Bender Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 It's so they can charge more when they feel like it and blame an algorithm. Witchcraft is what it is. 2 1 Quote

Fish Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 I found that business use made quite a decent difference. Depending if my work changes and I complete my current secondment probahation period I might well drop the business off it. Quote
husoi Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Had a similar spell thrown at me when I got the ST1300. This replaced the faster and more dangerous VFR800 But allegedly, having an extra 13hp was a concern. Funny enough, going from 220kg to 330kg had no effect on the premium... 1 Quote
