Pbassred Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 (edited) Assuming my wife passes her Mod2 in a few days we have a Honda Rebel with 200 miles that she wants to ride on holiday. The first oil change is due at 600. There won't be an opportunity to put more than 100 more on it and the holiday will probably be 500 miles. So the first change will be due in the middle of the holiday. Do it before or after? Edited May 26, 2022 by Pbassred Quote
billy sugger Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 Do it before, in preparation for the holiday along with tyre pressures, check no nasties stuck in the treads, check chain for tension/kinks, etc. That way there will be no nasty surprises on your holiday trip Quote
fastbob Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 That's not a lot of miles for an oil change . Is this some kind of Honda break in procedure ? Quote

All new bikes require a change at 1000km or 600 miles then it goes to around 10000km or 6000 miles after that @Pbassred can you not get out on it? Quote
Gerontious Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) As far as Im aware, Honda uses a very ordinary mineral low spec oil in brand new engines to help with the bedding in process. especially the piston rings. So changing it for the proper spec is important at the first service. BMW used to do the same kind of thing. Not sure if they still do, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Edited May 27, 2022 by Gerontious Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I'd do as many miles as you can before you go away, then do the oil and filter. I used a higher spec oil than recommended and the difference in the gear change was noticeable. Quote
Pbassred Posted June 15, 2022 Author Posted June 15, 2022 In the end she got through Mod2 and the bike has 500 miles on it. It's booked for the first service the day before we leave. 2 Quote
