Sam Boughton Posted September 12, 2023 Share Posted September 12, 2023 Hi guys, so I've got a 2003 r1 that keeps showing code 30. I checked the manual, lean angle sensor, ordered a new sensor and it was fine for 1 ride tried to start the bike Sunday and it gave a code 30 again, wouldn't let me clear it from the diag mode either, when I check d08 it's showing 4.0 so is definitely put of the parameters, if I wiggle the sensor it doesn't fluctuate on the dash, any help would be so appreciated not really sure what to do next. I rode the bike Saturday with the new sensor and everything was perfect, it only happens when I try to turn the bike on and Saturday it didn't happen once. Started the bike maybe 5 times on the Saturday. I have opened the sensor up and checked the pendulum and it all seems OK no corrosion or anything. Really got me stumped on this one. Sam Boughton Posted September 14, 2023 Author Share Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) So a little update, I charged the battery as it seemed to of drained while attempting to start the bike on Sunday. Connected it back up turned the key and it turned straight on! Went into diag mode and checked d08 it's reading 0.6 which is within the parameters checked the error codes and it said 1,, code 30, it let me clear it straight away though! .. Started the bike and checked the battery with a meter and it is charging so I'm still not sure what the issue is I thought maybe the low power from the battery caused the sensor to freak out but why would the battery be low on power if its being charged by the bike I'm honestly so stuck Edited September 14, 2023 by Sam Boughton Spelling mistake Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Does the bike have a immobiliser or alarm or tracker? if the battery is good enough to start a bike its fine for the system, so a sensor isnt gonna be bothered by it. is the sensor secured well enough? bolted in and in the correct way? The plastic housing if loose can fool it, Id be checking the relays too, if they are sticking or tripping that can make it think its sensor has gone off. A weak battery can cause all sorts of issues with sensors and electronics When you hit the starter if the voltage drops too low at some sensors and electronic components it can throw an error! It had a datatool s3 system but it's been bypassed because it was killing the battery, that was by the previous owner. The bike was perfect for about 6months. Yeah the sensor is in the correct place, the bike was actually on a Paddock stand when the bike showed code 30 on the Sunday. Yes yesterday when I put the battery in I went into the diag mode and cleared the code then started her up. It's a new battery, I got it about 2months ago that's why I was a bit confused why it was almost dead especially when I checked and it is charging I try to ride every weekend both days but sometimes just 1 day a week I get out for a few hours. So what we did was bridged between 2 different wires on the alarm, it's totally disconnected from the alarm unit itself .. Just tried the bike now and code 30 again, hasn't moved off the paddock stand and it won't let me clear the code so I'm just about to start checking connectors and relays thankfully this time I wasn't fulled geared up ready to go Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If there's nothing draining the power, it could be the reg/rec not charging the battery whilst you ride, so it slowly drains and throws up error codes as it does so? On Thursday when the bike was running I checked and while running it was ready high 13s maybe low 14s I don't rememeber exactly, I'm really stumped what's going on, I just disconnected the battery to let the bike drain out as that seems to help Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
