Pink Paisley Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 This is my granddad and grandmother, taken around the early 1930's on whatever granddad Rode then. All 3 are long gone. Quote
Tiggie Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I did some googling of the registration and I found that the letters UO are from the Devon area and were used between 1926 -1929. I'm thinking its an Ariel but cant be absolutely sure Quote
Pink Paisley Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Thanks for having a look. Devon would be spot on. 1 Quote
Old-codger Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 My guess would be a Rudge 500 OHV from mid 1920s as it looks like a twin to me. 1 Quote
billy sugger Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I'm with @Old-codger on this one Quote
Pink Paisley Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) Mid 20's is likely, but I've been looking at photos of Rudge's and all seemed to have brakes on the hub of the front wheel. Looking closely at granddad's machine, there don't seem to be any front brakes at all! Edited September 24, 2023 by Pink Paisley Quote
Bianco2564 Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) I'd guess at a Rudge. Forks look the same, exhaust dropping down into the silencer, shape of the tank, shape of the RH engine case https://www.spicersauctioneers.com/catalogue/lot/58ec1e413604cec54dd1a7d6c1f7cfce/2a6fa85538c56e3991b429b74f737ad8/classic-and-vintage-cars-motorcycles-and-automobilia-lot-662/ Edited September 24, 2023 by Bianco2564 Quote
Pink Paisley Posted September 24, 2023 Author Posted September 24, 2023 Thank you. That looks a lot like it to me. £10,000! And I can see a 'brake' operating on the wheel rim. Rather like a pushbike. Just as well granddad has his ultra-safe flat hat an granny has her kevlar reinforced felt bonnet. 3 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 a few pounds, shillings and pence back then. Would have been abit of a beast back in the day, salivating mineral oil on the floor. Cor Yep rim brakes baby! Braking in a timely manner as to not disturb the flat cap or wifes bonnet. even royal enfield wouldn't make um like that anymore. Quote
