Spider causes crash

A tarantula crossing the road caused a collision that left a motorcyclist in hospital in California.

Two tourists, from Switzerland, braked abruptly to avoid killing the spider after seeing it crossing state route 190 in the Death Valley National Park on Saturday.

A 24-year-old Canadian man on a motorbike then crashed into the back of the couple's rented camper van, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a statement.

"The spider walked away unscathed," the NPS added.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm kind of impressed that they (probably) went quick enough for someone to have to abruptly brake, but also spotted this spider crawling along.

I don't think I would've braked however + don't think a spider is big enough to not be able to move 2 inches to the right?

I almost crashed because of a wasp once.
I have no idea how, but it got inside my helmet with the visor down, buzzing around my face on a tight and windy road, where I couldn't pull over safely.

I opened the visor but it didn't want to get out, so I held my breath so it couldn't get into my airways and bury itself in there (because that's the sort of logic my brain gives me when this little death fly is angry in the confined area that is my face).

It felt like forever before I found somewhere to stop, and breath again.

Never again, I'd rate the experience as a -10/10.

A pigeon once decided that it had right of way instead of my helmet.

I spent the entire afternoon at Banbury Bike fest being laughed at by my mates because I was covered in bird shit.

All animals (except cute doggos) are sent from Satan.

I've had on more than one occasion something fly into my helmet and start crawling around my ear, it's the most horrifying feeling.

Usually in a place I cannot stop for some time

Also nearly broken my neck on more birds than I care to recall. One actually glanced off my helmet at 80mph this year, like a full blow would've broken my neck I'm sure because that gave me a sore one for about a week.
